>>41223521Thank you for keeping this going, anon; I, for one, really appreciate it. My mother's birthday is the 31st, and Halloween was always a bit of a big deal, growing up, as you can imagine.I know I will be losing her soon (relatively speaking), and it makes me want to pursue Halloween more because of it.

Going to watch this tonight. Hope it's good. I thought the alien-themed VHS movie from last year was great.
>>41230558Watched it last night, really liked the Fun Size segment and the Home Haunt one, even spotted a reference to Tampa Bay's one and only Dr Paul Bearer, but then the one with the babies felt like fetish shit, and the one with kids being tortured to death was just too much for what these movies are

I'm so fucking glad October is finally here. I'm drinking pumpkin beer (Elysian Night Owl) and watching a playthrough of Majora's Mask to get in the Halloween mood. Love all the folks who show up for these threads, stay comfy.
>>41223750Best wishes to you and your mom, friend. I hope the spooky season treats you both well.
Saint Arnold Pumpkinator 2024 is totally worth it.
Anyone have any recommendations for some chaos magick style rituals to do for the Halloween season? I've been meaning to wade back into the occult in order to celebrate the ancestral harvest festival roots of Halloween and would love to fuse some kind of traditional/pagan rituals with the weird postmodern sensibilities of chaos magick.
>>41225068I've never seen a Spirit Halloween in a mall, typically they choose a random department lot around town. This year they've opened within a car dealership-- like half of the store is just a Spirit Halloween. Are there any wacky locations you, lads, have seen?
>>41229871Thanks anon, these rock, I love all the old VHS tape rips!
>>41223521All of these stores look EXACTLY the same now, but I remember them being different somehow some 20 years ago when I was 9-10yo. Also the stores didn’t open their doors in fucking August. It was always at the beginning of October. And I think that’s why spooky season felt more novel overall. But now? It’s like Halloween lasts for months and you just get sick of it all that much quicker and can’t wait to see these stores close. That’s when you know you’re old
>>41232934I learned a long time ago that holidays are best if you just ignore when the stores want you to start spending. Both in terms of when they set up the seasonal departments and when they start tearing it all down. I don't want to do anything Halloween until October 1st and I don't want anything to do with Christmas until December. If you look to corporations to set your schedule you'll be burned out and ready to pack it all up long before it's actually here.
>>41230558I can't say I was a fan, but that might just be because I still think the first two movies are the best, and the series feels like it's actively trying to diverge from them.
I just realized, we should do what /co/ does and have spooky movie streams. It would be nice to sit around and watch a film while having a beer and would be good for anons who have to work on Halloween or don't have anything lined up, they have something to do and aren't left out of the festivities.
>>41231753I think the last segment with the cursed Halloween novelty record was the best. It felt like an ultra-violent episode of Goosebumps. And it had kids being killed but in a way more "campy" way than the other segment
>>41233976The first two are best for sure, followed by VHS Beyond and then VHS Viral. All the rest sort of just blend together in my head
>>41234909There was a person doing that last year. Their username was Julia Cotton like the evil mom in Hellrasier. I haven't seen them around these threads so far.

>>41233044This. Decorations for Halloween Oct. 1st, maybe two or three days before if you’ve got a lot. Christmas the day after Thanksgiving. Maybe right after dinner if the wife can’t keep cool. Anything more burns it out before the end.

>>41235696Yeah I consider September and October to be Halloween season, I always start getting excited for it around mid-August
>>41235696>>41235786Some fall stuff is ok early. Scarecrows, pumpkins, hay bales. But straight up spooky stuff too early is a turn off. >neighbors skeletons out Sept 15th>46 days at least >I’ll just wait
>>41225594Sleepy HollowFriday the 13thWhile not a movie, Scooby Doo is my favorite of all time, so I watch an episode at least daily.

>>41233044I don't mind picking up decorations early if I see something I like. The right timing for stores to put out fall/Halloween decorations for me is starting in September. I put out fall decorations on September 1st and Halloween stuff on October 1st unless I'm just ready for Halloween early. Christmas stuff goes up a few days after Thanksgiving. Each holiday should have its time to shine, in my opinion.
>>41237284Great harvest, I like the white ones.

>>41234971Yeah, at some point it just like they gave up on the notion. The overarching story being about the discovery of some cursed tapes that actively fuck with those who watch it, and the general grittier vibe to the individual segments really added a lot. It also felt like they had a reason to be in the found footage style. Now they just jam the found footage recording style for the sake of it, half of the time where it doesn't make sense and isn't treated like an actual camera man, but some weird meta-documentary that makes no sense. Then half of the segments are too absurd and silly with no actual substance behind it.It feels so unnecessarily forced.
Zoomers will never understand how hard this hit when it first aired on TV a few nights before Halloween
>>41242799I've got a bright purple T-shirt with that cover art on the front that I got as a birthday present a few years ago. One of my favorite shirts. Also one of my favorite Goosebumps books/episodes.

>>41235786I start mid September and stop after like the first week of November. >>41235696Too early and the vibe is still way too Summery. Too late and it starts feeling too Thanksgivingy and borderline winter. >>41235041Buddy we do this every year. I've been attending these threads since 2021.

>>41245184https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1oDv3st9S8
>>412451847 is really good, it leans back into the survival horror roots more than 4/5/6 did. I did not like Village at all, it felt like it was going back to being a more action heavy game, which is fine, but the control felt too floaty and the level design just didn't do anything for me. It made me want to play 4 again. Or 7. 7 is really good.
I can't remember if I post this every time or if I just mean to. I know I've posted it on /x/ before at least. It's the entrance to the spooky cemetery where I live :3
>>41244685Have you tried the Angry Orchard Pumpkin cider yet?
Made some headstones
>>41245837>>41245858We usually decorate the yard with the generic Styrofoam headstones you can get at like Party City and shit, handmade ones are really cool. We'd usually try to touch them up by making them look weathered, spray painting them, etc. One year we got a shitload of hay and shaped it in front of the headstones to make them look more like fresh graves. It came out really well but it was so much fucking work and we don't live in a suburb so it's not like we get trick or treaters.
>>41245860That’s a really cool idea, the mounds. Ya these were quite a bit of work too. I followed directions off this instrucables, I could find the link if anyone’s interested. seemed like getting the tools together was half the battle. Then it went pretty fast. I made extras for my siblings with kids. They were excited. Kind of like what you’re saying. The sharing is what makes it worth it.
>>41244685My local Bev mo was sold out of Southern tier. All they had left was a can of pumking and a pack of caramel pumking. Gotta be honest I wasn't a big fan, tasted too overpowering.Gonna pick up some of this tomorrow and a few cans of pumking.

>>41246198It's not bad I've had it before. It has coffe on it and yeah you can taste it. I want to give the angry Orchard Halloween drinks a go next.
>>41246181Unfortunately it's pretty much the best part of the book. The Emissary is pretty strong on fall atmosphere at least
what does /x/ think of winter? is it too normoid?
>>41246976Normies hate winter. I've grown to appreciate it again though, even if the grey can begin to drag sometimes. I like how isolating it is.
>>41223521full moon
>>41246976Winter is far preferable to summer, as someone who lives in a humid state. Bundled up with some coffee and a fire is nice.Trying to stay cool with the AC running all day isn't.
>>41246976It’s a bit harder to enjoy time outside or camp during winter but that being said Christmas is pretty comfy for decorating too. I love when it’s snowy in the middle of the night
>>41248727I agree with this anon. It's way easier to warm yourself up than it is to cool yourself down and I get really irritable if I can't keep my temperature comfy. It's partly why I prefer the cold seasons and cold countries.
>>41248727>>41249194Not only is it easier but it is way more cozy bundling up than running a fan and AC. Usually only my feet get cold which is easily solved with socks but when it is hot it's usually your whole body.
>>41245179lmaooo
What do you guys think are the best places to Spend Halloween? I feel like it's gotta be a small town. When I lived in the big city Halloween, never felt like Halloween.
>>41250059I'd kill someone to spend Halloween in New England, somewhere like in Salem or Sleepy Hollow. Obvious tourist traps but the way the autumn colors pop out there with the rustic scenery cannot be recreated where I'm at.
>>41241448Immediately thought of this lol.
>>41246976I love gray skies and the cold, but I live in florida which sucks dog dick, yeah the cold is so cozy, I can just spend time outside, earlier this year it got really cold so I went out to hang out with some friends, and when i came home I made some hot chocolate got under a blanket and watched Eraserhead
>>41246976I love it. It's my second favorite season after fall. I adore the snow, the cold, the bleak cloudy skies, and the naked trees. The only thing I hate about winter is when it has snowed and the sun comes out. Can't stand that. It's too blinding and the snow starts to melt.
>>41250154Honestly, Sleepy Hollow/Tarrytown, NY is really nice in October. Haunted Houses, they pay somebody to dress up as the Headless Horseman to ride around the old colonial era cemetery, and if you come the right weekend you get peak fall color. Maybe it's corny and I'd feel different if I lived there instead of having just visited a few times, but it's fun. Highly recommended. Never done Salem on Halloween but it is a cool spot to visit with all of the historical buildings, museum, and cemeteries.
>>41251275I will add, of you want fall color, Halloween is usually post-peak in Tarrytown or Salem.
>>41251738Vintage Halloween is king.
>>41232152Where the hell do you find any? I swear my HEB hasn't had any for weeks. I assumed they had to get through all the Oktoberfest beer first.
>>41251275Right, there is a ton of history up in New England, even outside the spooky stuff. Most of my bucket list locations are outside of the US but Salem and Sleepy Hollow are high on that list.>>41251738Based
>>41245223Biohazard is my first RE game. Never played one before. It's alright, but gets a little slow and boring at times. Plus it makes you feel like a helpless baby at times. Dude can't run when his life depends on it, can hardly shoot a gun accurately at point blank range, etc. Ethan is weaker, slower and less competent than me in real life, which is weird for a video game character. >>41246976Winter is my second favorite season behind Autumn.
Just finished watching The Lost Village. Very disappointed unfortunately. Conceptually it was cool. The gist is a big group of people who want to escape their lives and start over join a tour that takes them to an abandoned village called Nanaki, and naturally there are paranormal rumors surrounding it, like the fact that it can only be found sometimes. Spooky stuff starts happening even before they get there, and everything descends into chaos when everyone starts suspecting everyone else of being behind it all.The first few buildup episodes and the last two, for me, were the best. The middle is just a colossal, meandering nothingburger. There are way too many characters for a 12 episode series (sort of like Angel Beats, which I love but damn it got fucked by budget/production issues), and it's an anime original so there's no source to fall back on. There's no time for character development beyond five minute flashbacks here and there that are crammed into single episodes, so it's very hard to really give a shit about anyone and what they've been through that causes the spoops to manifest. The actual horror visuals are nice, but very sparse, and that just made me wish I was watching something like Dark Gathering, Ghost Hunt, or Mieruko-chan.The ending is incredibly abrupt even with the last two episodes being pretty strong up to that point. You don't really get any sense of closure beyond a vague "Everything will work out somehow" for the people who decide to stay in the village vs the people who leave to rejoin society. None of the new or repaired relationships (a few characters knew each other beforehand) are really explored at all, and it just left me wishing it had been 24 or even 26 episodes. I will say the OST was nice, simultaneously brooding and emotional.Unfortunately I can't recommend this one unless you've seen the vast majority of horror anime and are just desperate for something new. You could certainly do worse, but I'd probably give it a 4/10.

>>41261379No. Why the fuck would it be? It's origins and purpose were to act like the monsters that prowl at night, and to spook em off. Also if the spooks saw different spooks already at it, they wpupd be more likely to leave villagers alone. Look into Samhain.

>>41261794Cool. Got any neat Scandi ghost stories? Your own experiences, or others'?
>>41261932I've experienced ghosts in real lifeOne time when I was younger (was in my teens), me and my family was traveling around Scania. We lived at this old "mansion" from the 1800s. It wasn't very fancy, the stairs were really short could barely walk them, had to duck when going into doors and so on.They had remade the attic as a living space, which was the biggest and only place for our family to stay. There was a toilet and then there was a storage room. That day was 35c (very unlike Sweden) but in that room, it felt like you went into a freezer. Very strange. Later that night, it was so hot that I was not able to sleep. I took a woven chair which they had in that room and dragged it to the window to sit there and cool off (nice view of the nearby harbor). Eventually went to bed. An hour later or so (half awake) I started hearing rustling noises that sounded like that chair I was sitting in. I kid you not, I saw something sit in it, like a spectral figure that looked like a woman peering out, just like I had. My mother claimed to have heard the noise too and she woke up from it. The next day there was a shared breakfast for the all the guests. We overheard three young girls, probably in their 20s, how something had picked up things in their room and fallen to the ground, no one touched anything. This confirmed that what I saw was real.Another time was when I went for my night walks (it's very soothing especially fall or winter). I was near some fields, going along a road lit by streetlights. Under on of the lights a white ball started to form, it looked like thick fog. I looked out at the fields and I didn't see any fog. It was really strange. There is supposedly something called "will'o'wisp" maybe it was something like that? There was also one time I for sure heard something pace outside my door and in the room next to me, it was like 5 in the morning and it lasted for like an hour. My grandfather passed away a couple months before this happened.

>>41271296You don't like the Hungry House? I love that story lmao, but it's not his best.Pleasant dreams is his best anthology. It's got Enoch (I'd call it Bloch's best story) basically about a Imp who controls a dude, it's a serial killer story essentially. Really creepy.

>>41273912I usually start playing them in August or September. I went through Order of Ecclesia and Portrait of Ruin for the first time this year, then replayed Symphony of the Night, and I'm in the process of getting through Harmony of Dissonance, but it's not grabbing me the way the others did.Granted, I wasn't crazy about OoE either, but at least the combat and rune system was unique enough to keep my attention. Plus Shanoa is hot.

I'm trying to convince the gf to celebrate a proper halloween evening (we don't celebrate in our country). I'd like to watch something really scary, mainly paranormal related. Last movie I saw was incantation, which I really liked. What would you guys recomend?
>>41274211Hellraiser or Event Horizon if you think she'd be able to handle the gore. I'd say The Thing too but that's not really paranormal in the strictest sense. Maybe Prince of Darkness or In the Mouth of Madness.
>>41274211The Frighteners is more of a comedy but super good. The Conjuring and Insidious are normie picks but serve as a good intro. The Amityville Horror, The Shining, Poltergeist (1982) and it's sequels, Burnt Offerings, and The Exorcist are some classics.
Evening /hal/.I bring to you a boring post (and let's hope I won't have to split it in multiple posts).Last year, or perhaps the previous one, I mentioned in one of these threads the apparently haunted house in my neighborhood, and if memory serves, I said I would take a photo of it, so here it is.Yes, this is way overdue, the person that was interested might not even be here anymore, but I passed by it the other day and thought "well, better late than never".>But Anon, why do you think it's haunted?I live in this neighborhood for 30 years now, and have never seen anyone living there for more than a month, it went for so long trading hands that the current owner just uses it as a garage. Now, I don't believe the supernatural myself, but it's certainly a situation.>Have you ever gone inside? No. When I was 10 or so, the wall at the end of the corridor (do corridors on the outside have a specific name?) had a door, two friends of mine jumped the fence and went back there, one of them kicked the door, then they got scared and bolted. Nothing happened, of course, when the lead one kicked the door, the one behind got startled and ran, and seeing the other one running away probably prompted the kicker to run too. As you can see, there's no door there anymore, but unfortunately I can't say when that happened, if it was weeks, months or even years after that day.>BonusI have seen ghost orbs from the window once, but I'm sure that "memory" was a dream.
