Not to get culty, but it seems like in the 60s/70s there were “amole” opportunities to go live and work on an ashram and practice meditation and yoga daily. Do places like this still exist and are they actually feasible to live and work at? I’m tired of trying to balance a meditative lifestyle with the hustle and bustle of going to work every day and coming home too exhausted to even think…it’s bad for the spirit. Interested if anyone knows about this or has been through it themselves

if I lived somewhere warm I would do it in a heartbeat but I literally freeze when it's below 65 or so. I think there's something wrong with me actually, if I pass by a vent in my house when it's blowing cold air sometimes it sends me into a violent fit of shivering for several minutes, like to the point that my sides hurt a lot and can cramp up.

better join an ashram of an stablished Vedantist Shankaracharya, rather than some scammer "i am actually the highest god and 5000-year old avatar line" gurus eg; the Khailasa guy (nithyananda?)...I don't know how you would deal with Casteism tho, if you're a non-Brahmin you wouldn't enter most temples, at least in "rural" India...
>better, in my opinion, go to Bhakti\Shakti-tantra, community route

I am surprisingly resilient. I basically never get sick, I heal from injuries super fast, I can walk for literal hours on end without getting tired. It's just cold, and it's only been like that for the past five or ten years, I used to not care at all.
>>
>>41243856
Thse communities are almost always crap. You get cultish leaders who mentally torture the others, borderline types who endlessly annoy you, retarded crystal mommies etc

Just set up a basic meditation routine, practice some compassion etc Forget about a job, just stop giving a shit about the grind

You can try to join an akhara if you move to india, especially if you learn hindi you can help them as a translator, you'll get to smoke a lot of pot and hang out with nude ash-covered indians. There's also the naths but I think you might have to slice your tounge a bit so it goes up your nose from the inside if you join them, weird yoga practices like that. Also ramakrishna math is an option, but you won't get to smoke weed and have to have a college degree I think, but if you're into very philosophical Advaita that's an option. Anything that involves moving to India you will have to deal with Visa stuff, but if you join an akhara/monastery they should help you

you need like 12 years of non-stop celibacy and training to be a Naga sadhu (the ones allowed to be naked-ash and smoke pot).
memeguru (sadhguru) said he met 2 Nagas, whose guru had instructed them to stay naked ,for 12 years, in the himalayan snowy range, to be initiated.
>>
>>41245584
what do you mean by "allowed to be naked-ash and smoke pot" ?? who is stopping anybody who wants to do that? I've seen naked people wandering around india, nobody gives a shit, nudity isn't a deal, old ladies bathe in the river with their tits flopped out
smoking hash is the same thing, I was smoking in every restaurant I went to, even indoors when the windows were closed on winter days lol
>>
>>41245584
yeah you don't wanna be a naga sadhu, pretty sure you have to give yourself erectile dysfunction by wrapping your dick around a stick and breaking the muscles also

Also you forgot to mention Aghori gigachads
>>
>>41245635
Aghoris are cool but I wish they were more hedonistic like the Kapalikas they descended from instead of the grossout behavior

Look to India.
For a few thousand bucks you should be able to find an entire years stay somewhere.
Price will vary depending on how it is marketed towards indians vs westerners

inflammation or some sort of infection raising your body temp
like when you have a fever you feel cold but its actually because youre so warm that even room temp is like freezing

also maybe more likely you just stay in a warm environment too long
space heater, computer in a closed room, etc.
I have the same prob anon

I was in a Hindu cult for 20 years. Stay away from that shit. It always begins with ashram life.

I think cults kind of ruined the 60's 70's ashram circuit. Sai Baba, Osho, all those people.

Imagine trying to run such a place and then the crowd of schizos from this board show up.

Living without electricity or running water would still be easy, but food always becomes the main issue. Just being in the wild, without even doing anything, consumes many times more energy than being in a heated city apartment. You're not gonna survive by farming beans. A car, money, and a grocery store are shackles you can't escape.
>>
>>41247817
> electricity
you can live without but also make your own
> running water
same thing
> food
trivial to obtain, either hunting, farming, or both.
the issue is that they will not let you.

don't underhestimate how much food rabbits, and sheeps can

how much food rabbits, sheeps and chickens can provide you with.

the sheeps, lamb and goats can literaly eat by foraging in the forest.
