I heard a rumor once that in the early days of torrenting that if you downloaded games/movies or whatever that it would install a screamer on your computer that would pop up and scare you at random times. Was that ever true or just an urban legend?
>>41265957Nah just viruses that bricked your computer eventually Took us teen coomers a few family computers before many of us figured it out though. Many boomers wondered why their computers gave out every 2 years
>>41265957Bs. Kazaa and LimeWire had a bunch of malware tho.
>>41265957hey kid im a computer stop all the downloadin'
>>41265970help cumpewduh
>>41265957>screamersworse shit than that, dude.
>>41266043such as?
>>41266053I remember downloading something that started releasing carbon monoxide through the USB ports
>>41266111nerve gas? oh shit oh no
Not paranormalDeboonked
>>41266043Hackers could steal all your runescape goodies. Put 2000 hours into that and you'll really scream.
>>41266043Gay porn labeled as regular porn.
>>41265957It might have been true in some instances and probably was. Like late 90s if you looked at any kind of porn website later you would get porn pop ups. I was a kid over someone's house once in like 1998 playing on the computer and all of a sudden there was a pop up of literal child porn but the girls were my age I looked at it for a second but I never looked at it again it was just nudity though but looking back I think back then the Internet was really inundated with that shit and apparently Microsoft/Bill Gates did that and wanted that on purpose to justify constant updates and anti virus software they could use as a Trojan horse back door to implement a matrix system hellworld
>>41265957It's true. I remember. There was also never-ending popup virus you'd get from porn sites. I think they all came from file sharing hubs like Kazaa and Limewire.
>>41267401
>>41265957Some malware was like that (most would just send all your keystrokes to a remote server in Russia and cause random porn popups) but that would generally only happen if you downloaded "Linkin Park - Crawling.mp3.exe" off Kazaa and tried to run it
>>41265957no piracy is so they can get a giant bot net to do god knows whatpiracy is run by the government lmaowhy do you think they never get in troubleand if they do its shit like 9 anime that wasnt run by the govtimmediately got replaced with hianime.towhich is a govt run website
>>41267899>muh gabbanmentThe government is spreading the 'the government is evil' conspiracy theory to hide the fact that they are a bunch of fat inept boomers that have been out of touch since the 80s. Why are you scared of the government Anon? Have you seen the people that work there? The government isn't scary. What's scary is how incompetent they are and the realization that they won't be of any help if shit really hits the fan
>>41265957It's called "virus". Back then a lot of "hack toolZ" for "scriptKiddies" appeared. Some of them were the concept or "birth" of the tools (nowadays) like TeamViewer, or TuneUp (back then). Same time stuff like Sub7 appeared. Nothing special. But the Industry reacted and anti virus toolkits/programs/updates and other stuff were user to build new segments within the IT industry.
>>41265957I remember Sony shipped several MILLION copies of games and music (on CD) that installed malware on your computer. It was supposed to somehow keep you from pirating ALL Sony products but it malfunctioned constantly and made people's computers crash. That was the first time a "mainstream" company tried to use malware on ordinary people.>>41266053A website that screams "Hey everybody! I'm looking at gay porn" while 100 windows of Goatse open on your desktop. That was from just trying to GET to the pirate website.
>>41265957>not panamornalI hate you OP I fucking hate you. You ruined my fucking day. Fuck you.I fucking hate you OP
