>already October 13 tomorrow
How is everyone's October going? You are watching lots of horror and partaking in some festivities?
>>
>>41275378
Missed a local thing that was going on to celebrate my girlfriends birthday. Shame since it looked fun, but she was happy. Other than that its been creepy youtube videos (Watching Oakburn Opus right now), classic horror movies (watched House on Haunted Hill the other day) and a few cartoons here and there. Thinking of making dirt pudding and getting a pizza for an asian horror movie marathon this weekend.

Watching/playing horror, yeah. There aren't a ton of festivities going on but I did decorate the yard yesterday. Got one of those big animatronic spooky scaries to stand in the middle of the fake headstones and various ghoulies and ghosties hanging up around the property.
I'll try to get some pics tomorrow.

Yeah, I always do Goosebumps: Attack of the Killer Jack O Lanterns, and Wishbone: The Legend of Creepy Collars. And of course the Great Pumpkin goes without saying.
The last few years I've added the Scariest Story Ever: A Mickey Mouse Halloween Spooktacular to that rotation. Really good stuff.

I work full time and live with six other people. It sucks desu. I was a Neet for eight years and got board of it, ran out of vidya and animu to play/watch (most media fucking sucks now and isn't worth wasting time in) if media was better I'd still probably be a neet, but now? idk mine as well do something.

Me when 2026 has the largest recession since the great depression, likewise even if the recession doesnt happen next year "your" money "the banks money" (yup you work and your bank gets the money) it will happen in a few years down the line. (4) at most we know something big will happen leading to or in 2030.

So your whole grinding 40hr/week is pointless rn and its an utter joke. You should be taking this time going abroad (while you still can). Exploring around. Decreasing dependency as a CONSUUUMER..yeah thats right know more luxuries, working as minimal hours to get by.
>>
>>41275378
I was reading a Lovecraft story and a chapter from A Night in the Lonesome October everyday but I just got Shadow Ticket for my birthday so I'll probably be reading that for the next week. Had fun with my son at a local pumpkin patch, climbing hay bales and walking through the corn maze. We might carve pumpkins next weekend which is also my wedding anniversary.

We've got strobes set up now as well that project stuff like lightning bolts and spoopy ghosts onto the house and in the trees. It makes everything look incredibly creepy at night. The big skelly boy is motion activated and he lights up and starts talking whenever you get near him.

Hell no, I'll never be a home owner the way things are going. I'm lucky enough to be able to stay with family, I moved back at the beginning of COVID because it was cheaper for everyone and they needed help caring for my sick grandmother. I work remotely so I was more available than anyone else.
We've had it since I was in high school. There's a lot that needs to be fixed because it was honestly built like shit in a lot of ways but you can't tell from the outside at least.

Been rewatching the Twilight Zone on Tubi. I forgot how much I love this damn series. I wish Rod Serling could narrate my life.
Something that I think is cool about him and that people might not know is that he was an amateur boxer during his military years with 17 total bouts. He fought at flyweight and got to the second round of the division finals before he got KO'd. He also apparently had his nose broken in his first and last fights. I'm a big boxing fan so I just think that's neat.

Any of you anons like the Twilight Zone? Got any favorite episodes? It's hard to pick just one for me.
>The Lonely
>Walking Distance
>The Night of the Meek
>The Invaders
>Time Enough at Last
>It's a Good Life
>The Midnight Sun
>Nightmare at 20000 Feet
All standouts, among others.

I still haven't sat down and watched every single episode, but my absolute favorite is And When the Sky Was Opened.

I procrastinated buying a life-sized skeleton for my halloween setup, and now all the shops have replaced their halloween sections with christmas stuff. my only option is to now buy one at double the price off of amazon, but fuck that. i'll buy one secondhand in november, I guess. be this a lesson to you all- don't leave skeleton shopping til the last minute!
>>
>>41315802
Favorite episode has always been One for the Angels. Always puts me in good spirits when i watch it. I watched Little Girl Lost earlier since I've heard it Poltergeist takes a lot of inspiration from it, and holy shit, they weren't kidding. Poltergeist is literally that episode verbatim but stretched out to the length of maybe 5 or 6 regular Twilight Zone episodes. Good episode for the most part. The neighbor just knowing all about other dimensions was really convenient and I disliked how the mom is written as stereotypical useless hysterical 60s woman.

I hate that shit. October rolls around and most of the Halloween stuff has been replaced with Christmas. It used to be that they'd wait until November.
>>
>>41316198
Same reason I try to get all my Christmas shopping done before Dec. 15th, especially stocking stuffers. Nothing kills the holly jollies quite like seeing the place half-emptied and replaced by candy hearts.
>>
>>41316198
the worst part is that this year's halloween selection was pretty weak overall, and i'm still mourning its absence. much more halloween "homewares" than decorations. ghosts wearing cowboy hats and ceramic tat like that. heaps and heaps of plush pumpkins that feel like they're stuffed with newspaper.
I can only speak for the british side of things, anyway. I hope it's fared better over the pond.
I've enjoyed the Halloween energy this year so far. I found some good Halloween music, the house is full of decorations, I'm feeling good. The only thing is I usually go on walks around the neighborhood with my dog every night looking at the lights people put out, but he's not here with me anymore. I miss him; I should go out one of these night, but I get too sad thinking about it.

It's always felt cathartic watching Ed beat the shit out of all the other kids after years of him and the other two always getting the short end of the stick. Never liked the ending with Eddy and Double D getting attacked since it's one of the rare times where Eddy genuinely didn't do anything wrong. Otherwise, great special, and I've always loved the setup of Ed watching too many scary movies and his mind being warped by it. Probably the best Cartoon Network Halloween episode any show on there did.

I've been drinking copious amounts of pumpkin beer (Shipyard Pumpkinhead, not the best but very sessionable) and watching old nostalgic favorites of mine that complement the season well. Phenomenal episode and an incredible show overall, probably the series that defined my childhood more than any other. Boo Haw Haw captures the feeling of Halloween as a young boy better than anything. I find it interesting that nothing ever really resembled Ed Edd n Eddy's art style. Like any good 4chinned individual I now prefer 1 and 3, but as a kid I was obsessed most with Halloween 4 and Halloween 5. Reading Goosebumps and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, and watching classic Treehouse of Horror are on that list.
What I've always meant to revisit but haven't shelled out for yet is the Graveyard School books.

Just straight up Goosebumps clone but all taking place at the same school (or happening to one of its students on vacation etc.) The publisher wanted to get in on that market and they gave the job to one of the Babysitters Club writers under a pseudonym.

There's a third series too that I've never been able to remember the name of. Like a mix of Goosebumps and Animorphs if anyone knows what the hell I'm talking about. (Not Fear Street)

Also just remembered another nostalgic revisit, Paul Zindel books.

Anyone else really, really excited for Halloween this year? Something about it feels...different i guess? I loved Halloween growing up but it just hasn't felt the same for years.
This year tho? it's really for the entire month it's felt more Halloween than it has in years. It reminds me of it was when I was a kid, that magical transformation, dreamlike almost, it's back. The town I live in now looks like the movie Trick R Treat.

Not sure why, but you reminded me of that Halloween lost media. I think most people have forgotten about it now. H*ck, I can hardly recall everything myself. But from what I can remember it's basically

>Student film made in the early-mid '00s(?)
>It's some kind of original sequel or other to the first Halloween
>There's lots of this kinda thing, but this particular one actually has a good story, decent production value, and good acting (for it being a student film)
>Was uploaded to the director's website and youtube
>I don't even think it was a copyright issue, it was just the director's decision to take it down
>Someone did eventually get in touch with the director asking if he would reupload it or if they could buy a copy
>Director refuse to do either

I'm quite sure someone posted a link to it when it was still up and I kept putting it off and putting it off until it was too late. All I've seen since then were some screenshots and the emails with the director.
Then again I've been out of the lost media loop so long it's probably had a 4K BR release by now.

I've been watching old AVGN Halloween episodes, really sucks he never tried to make a proper movie back then cause he could have made an SOV masterpiece,

Tales of Halloween too, but TorT is better. And for something spookier, try The Fly, the 80s version. Warning: a lot of body horror, so if you're squeamish don't bother. Personally, it unsettled me

Wishbone is one of my favorite childhood series in general, and I appreciate it even more as an adult because the writers were very against bowdlerization. If a story was dark and fucked up, they didn't sugarcoat it. That kind of uncensored approach to history is a fucking rarity nowadays, especially concerning younger audiences. I owe a lot of my interest in history to that cute little Jack Russell Terrier.

I beat the first Castlevania once, beat 2 and 4, but never got close with 3 because it was made impossible in the US. I need to play Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night but I think I need a USB controller to do those
>>
I just cleared Aria of Sorrow again earlier, I'm debating whether I should get all the Souls now or just go into Hard mode. I've also cleared:
>Symphony of the Night
>Dawn of Sorrow
>Portrait of Ruin
>Order of Ecclesia
>Circle of the Moon
>Harmony of Dissonance
Spread out over this year, and me and some buddies have been playing Castlevania HD on a PS3 emulator on and off.
I have never cleared any of the older ones, I've played all of them but I usually end up dropping them because I get filtered by the archaic gameplay, mostly the stupid stage timers. I grew up with that shit but I'm used to a lot more QoL now and I have far less free time than I did back then. I know I can just use emulators and save states but I try to avoid doing that if I can.

I've only ever completed 4 and couldn't get into Symphony of the Night. I was always told 2 and 3 were best avoided so I never bothered with those.
After reinstalling retroarch I need more classic spooky games.

By The Sword Divided. It's a two-season series about the English Civil War and is widely regarded as one of the best works of fiction about the subject. As for TVTropes and Letterbox'd, I recall discovering them when getting into TV and movie criticism in high school, only to be taken aback by the politics. Nevertheless, I was introduced to some solid foreign entertainment. Not just this, but everything from I, Claudius to even the 70s version of Father Brown.

Caught the first Hellboy on AMC recently. Forgot how much Halloween atmosphere that movie had.
Any Hellboy fans?

A grumpy bastard of a blacksmith by the name of Stingy Jack invites the devil for a drink but refuses to pay (hence, the “stingy” descriptor). He convinces the devil to shape-shift into a coin to cover the tab. But when the devil obliges, Jack sticks the coin in his pocket. And much to the devil-coin’s dismay, there is a silver cross in that pocket, preventing him from returning to his original form. A deal is struck. Jack sets the devil free and, in return, the devil agrees A) to bar Jack from entering hell when he dies, and B) to leave Jack alone for a year.

A quick aside: This seems like a bad deal. And it is a bad deal — because guess what? A year later, the devil comes back to mess with Jack. Only Jack is ready for him. He convinces the devil to climb a tree so he might enjoy a delicious piece of fruit. Once the devil is up in the tree, Jack carves a cross into the trunk. The devil can’t come down. Another (bad) deal is struck, although this one does have the advantage of being slightly less bad than the previous one. Jack frees the devil in exchange for ten years of peace.

Jack dies. (Don’t be sad. He was an asshole.) The devil, true to his word, refuses to let Jack into hell. God, meanwhile, refuses to let Jack into heaven. So, what is Jack’s fate? To wander forever in eternal darkness, of course. But because the devil is not totally heartless (wait…), he tosses Jack a lump of burning coal from hell so he can have a bit of light. Jack carves out a turnip and sticks the coal inside, creating a lantern. Hence, “Jack of the Lantern,” which is later shortened to “Jack O’Lantern.”

Jesus, I had completely forgotten about that show. Looks like I'll have something to watch for the next couple days. Season 1 is free on Tubi and Plex if anyone else is interested.

I've got a small house party to go to on Friday and a shitload of mushrooms that I'm saving for a strong trip. It's actually been fairly mundane though this year since I'm just waiting for my bitch ex to move out and whilst she's staying with me still she's being a massive cunt so it's pretty lame. Few more weeks and I'm free again to be on my own. I can't fuckin wait.
