It was a Zen monastery so it's probably different from Mahayana. They had nuns there too. In the shrine with all the Buddha and boddhisatva idols they had a psychedelic electric mandala you just turn on with a little switch on the cord. The monastery was completely surrounded by unbelievably thick bamboo so it was like a fortress. Vietnamese monastery though not Japanese so not exactly my cup of tea, but an extremely well-published and learned lay preacher who knows the Dalai lama was visiting and taught during the retreat I went to there. I think he was Mahayana. He has a hot wife too for being in like her mid sixties. Such a Chad.
