in 2009, i received what new age and UFO types refer to as a "download" from the "source". i'm not sure what the source is. my personal theory is that we're in a simulation, and the source is the network that all our computer brains are connected to. then again, i've been wrong about plenty of things before.

the download wasn't any groundbreaking information, though. no revelations. it was just an algorithm. an algorithm that i didn't know how to write. i tried to write the thing down using mathematical notation. i didn't know how. after some manic googling, i came across something called a formal turing machine, and the symbols looked about right, so i used it.

the download made me psychotic. i thought my magic math formula was gonna make everyone a genius- that we'd all be able to learn any foreign language in a matter of days just by using the mnemonics outlined by the algorithm. i even thought it was the theory of everything at one point. i wrote numerous embarrassing rants on facebook and sent emails to my family and professors that were completely batshit. i deleted the posts, but the emails are still in my university email account. i'm trying to get access to it now.

when it was all over, i was lucky i didn't wind up in the hospital. took me a long time to recover. didn't feel like i was back to my old self for another few years. i didn't actually write down the download in code until a few weeks ago, partly because i had tried to block out the whole experience before then.

well, i don't want to take up too much space here. i'll be here all day and i'll be answering any questions you might have. i'm trying to get on the jesse michels american alchemy podcast to tell my story. i've told him how to vet me. just look for the northwestern.edu emails i sent to my linguistics professors. also, nothing dies on the internet, so there must be some way to get at the deleted facebook posts.

oh, and i'm not afraid to dox myself. my name is jeff crockett.

picrel is professor doug hofstadter, author of goedel escher back. i wrote him an email about how to do a "z test", which would separate the philosophical zombies from those with qualia (or PCs and NPCs, given that we're in a simulation)

i don't remember it is but it's in my northwestern email account

>we're in a simulation
Not so

>the source is the network that all our computer brains are connected to
Pretty much bang on
If you think about it as a, like, client/server architecture, the clients are only aware of each other because they're all connected to the server, right?
So too is it for each of us and the Source.
Though it's not helpful to think of the brain as "only" a computer - it both IS and IS NOT a computer, because the Brain and the Mind are separate.

>2009
This year is special, although I don't understand exactly why

Can you please elaborate more about this? Are we brains in vats or something like that?

I’m trying to remain as skeptical as possible so I have no idea what it’s actually like but the way I imagine it is kind of like one of those server rooms that you see whenever there’s a scene where like there’s an IT guy

I’ll admit that I can’t be sure that we’re in a simulation. None of us can ever be completely sure. Simulation theory is not a scientific theory because it’s not falsifiable. It doesn’t make any testable predictions. But if I had to bet on anything, I absolutely would bet that we’re in a simulation right now.

Yes so. Your post is evidence. I keep having anons repy right around when I go to post. This tread was sitting inactive for over an hour and my post was very quick to make. Like wtf is the point of this sh*t?

I love using AI to learn about programming. It’s just a lot easier than looking shit up on Google or stack overflow or whatever I know absolutely nothing about network shit what’s a good place to get started with that like, what should I ask?

Never mind, I just realized that all I have to do is copy and paste this question into ChatGPT and it will know exactly what to do using AI is seriously like learning on easy mode

No wonder everyone hates AI. They’re all jealous of all these fucking zoomer‘s and Jenn Alpha‘s who don’t have to do any work anymore.

There was also a second source encounter, obviously in between the third and first source encounters which took place in 2017 this one was more minor. It was all about this incredible obsession with recursion, even though at the time I barely could even do the most basic recursion problems Like I could go through doing the factorial recursively, but the factorial function is like the most basic recursive function there is, but my obsession with recursion did not manifest in the form of code it manifested in the form of HTML and CSS.

the download did not happen all at once, it started as a vague awareness of something and grew from there. during this time i encoded a hidden message into an article i wrote for the daily northwestern

https://dailynorthwestern.com/2009/03/04/archive-manual/crockett-its-hard-out-here-for-a-prophet/

oh

look at that

an article written by jeff crockett the the daily northwestern in march 2009

guess this isn't a larp

guesss /x/ just got real for once

the fact that you even had the idea that humans could learn a language in a matter of days shows that this is a part of your purpose
>>
>>41298288
it would have to be a programming language

i know exactly what approach i'll take

i'ma try c sharp cuz i love music theory

i don't know shit about the c sharp language

i'm studying it right now. so far EZ. once you learn classes, loops, variables, control flow, data types, etc. for one language, all that shit is EZ for other languages. there are just differences in how the concepts are expressed

I have this phenomenon happen to me where when I post or even just look at a thread that has been sitting an hour or so, someone else just happens to make a reply like seconds to a minute before I do. Has happened more than just a time or 2 here and there, so sus imo. I also have had times were several times in a week or so I would click on a thread and make a response, the thread just so happens to get axed in the middle of me making it. Ot is a weird feeling, especially when it happens often.
