The system I ended up using is a synthesis of vedic, classical western and arab astrology, with a marked emphasis on the fixed stars.I've done numerous case studies tracking planetary positions and how they correlate to major political events and market movements, and at one point I was using that knowledge to my advantage trading futures. I made a nice chunk of money like that, and that cemented my conviction in that there is a real, tangible mechanism at work here that transcends human psychology. If you want to seriously learn how to use astrology without being dependent on a particular text book or tradition, it takes years of observation, but you must also build a personal relationship with the planets themselves.
