What was your favorite piece of media that another /hal/ anon shared this year?
>>41354929Halloween town
Hellboy is one of my favorite series to revisit during this time of year. It's got this really perfect magical horror vibe that totally evokes Halloween.Plus the first movie has some good Halloween atmosphere at the start.
>>41355385I really love the del Toro movies but I've never read the comics. I need to do that.
Let's see those lists, you carveable little punkins.>The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021)>Friday the 13th (1980)>Event Horizon (1997)>Skeleton Key (2005)>Eyes Without A Face (1961)>1408 (2007)>Guinea Pig: Devils' Experiment (1985)>Guinea Pig: Flowers of Flesh and Blood (1985)>The Conjuring: Last Rites (2025)>Immaculate (2025)>Night of the Living Dead (1990) [In Theater]>House on Haunted Hill (1999)>Friday the 13th Part II (1981)>Friday the 13th Part III (1982)>Paranormal Activity (2007)>Guinea Pig: He Never Dies (1986)>Guinea Pig: Mermaid in a Manhole (1988)>Document of the Dead (2012)>Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (1984)>Hell House LLC (2015)>Guinea Pig: Android of Notre Dame (1988)>Guinea Pig: Devil Woman Doctor (1990)>The VVitch (2016)>ZOMBI (1978)>Hell House LLC II: The Abaddon Hotel (2017)>Friday the 13th: A New Beginning (1985)>The Making of Guinea Pig (1986)>Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives (1986)>Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood (1988)>>41354929I only know about Guinea Pig thanks to others mentioning it in previous threads. All great shit except Android but every franchise needs a stinker.
>>41355424Adding Paranorman and Halloweenie, loved those movies.
>>41355760Sorry, it's called Frankenweenie apparently.
>>41355766YOU’RE A WEENIE YOU DWEEB
>>41355424I've watched so many (over 200) I'll just list the best/memorable ones>The Wicker Man>Baskin>Cemetery Man>Cemetery of Terror >Macabre>Black Phone 2>Insidious >My Name is Bruce>976-EVIL>eXistenZ>All About Evil >Office Killer>Bad Dreams>Brainscan>Tales From the Hood >Bones>Flowers>The Entity >Satan War>The Frighteners>Grizzly >The Guest >In the Mouth of Madness>It Follows>Jack-O>Planet Terror>Possession >Strange Harvest >Sick Nurses>The Vanishing
Any suggestions?
>>41355424I watch these every year:PumpkinheadOriginal CreepshowSleepy Hollow (1999)
>>41354892I come in this awesome thread to see spooky pics and get inspired every year.MORE SPOOOOOKY PICS, PLEASE EVERYONE!!!
>>41355385>>41355395I loved the new movie, The Crooked Manreally comfy small adventure in the woods
>>41359200I'd live there.
Going to watch this tonight. Haven't seen it for at least 10 years
>>41359719It's alright, but the one after it is a contender for worst in the franchise. It's fucking awful.
>>41359431Even my dad liked that movie, it was such a good folk horror
Halloween Ends is my favorite of the series (besides the third one) I really, really ,really love this movie. The whole vibe is perfect, feels like October in a way that barely any movies do. Looks just like the shitty towns in Wisconsin and Iowa that I grew up in.
>>41360103Sadly it was visionary. Michael Myers VS Twitch Chat.>>41359431That's one of my favorite stories from the comics, have to check it out some time.
>>41357141200+ movies this October??
>>41360103When people tell me Kills or Ends (which I actually like, it just lacked the balls to commit) is the worst in the franchise I assume they skipped a few because 5, 6, & Resurrection are fucking unforgivable.>>41360631I really liked it too. There are a few decisions later in the film that feel like they pussied out of a more interesting climax Ironically, it's the exact thing that kneecaps 4 - it can't commit to the bit.>>41360948Resurrection is ahead of its time in understanding the net no doubt, but I can't really say anything else positive for it. I guess I like that putting the "Michael pulls a switcheroo" reveal into Resurrection kept it out of H20, so I give it some points for taking some shit out of a better film
Not strictly Halloween-related, but Autumn is goth/post-punk season
buuump
three days to go!
>>41354892Once again I'm asking for Halloween book recommendations
>>41364243I think Hallowgreen was more hype than anything else, but there is a lot of fun atmosphere and vibes in those movies. They feel more Halloween than like 90% of the series. For me the third movie is my favorite over all tho, I actually watched it besides the first rob zombi one.
>>41366497Bump

Fun Fact of the Day: There is an ultra-rare genetic disorder called Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva (FOP), which causes soft connective tissues like muscles, tendons, and ligaments to gradually ossify (turn into bone), making a second skeleton that progressively restricts movement. The best known case is that of Harry Eastlack (1933–1973). His condition began development at 10 years old, and by the time of his death from pneumonia in 1973, his body had completely ossified, leaving him only able to move his lips.
>>41370340I've read about that shit. The fact that something so fucking evil is possible is terrifying.
Well bros, only 3 days left :(. IDK why but this year I really struggled to capture the seasonal feeling. Has it felt off to anyone else?I'm thinking tonight I'll carve my punkins
>>41355424If you want something with a little cheese, watch The Legend of Hell House. Some early 70's aesthetic
>>41357141I recommend The Void.
>>41368553Honestly reminds me of horse pussy
>>41370340Didn't some celebrity have this? Or at least a lesser form of it or something? I think it was a woman.
>>41370663I've just felt a weird indifference toward Halloween this year. I like watching scary movies and seeing decorations and I love the ambiance of autumn, but for some reason the holiday has just not really even registered.
I just want to give out cards to trick or treaters why are TCG resellers like this.Went to GameStop last week because the site said they had the stuff in stock only in store, so I go by there but the guy there has no idea what I'm talking about, eventually I get to him and he says they have them in stock but can't sell them until the day after, so I come back today and the same guy is there and he just suddenly has no idea what I'm talking about and kept talking about like "events" and "drops" and I have to stress to him that I am not a collector I just want to give them out on halloween but the sheer concept eluded this neckbeard because can't just buy shit anymore
>>41371021It was like that for me last year but I'm into it this year.
Was In the hospital today, been feeling really under the weather this whole month, but I’m excited for Halloween. I watched The Garfield Halloween special today
>>41371996That one is super cozy, hope you can enjoy more stuff, try Witches Night OutPic Unrelated

>>41372348love him
Thank you whichever anon recommended “A Lonesome Night In October.” It’s been a great read, highly recommended to anyone who hasn’t.
This year hasn't hit ngl. Maybe next one will be better. Also, /HHG/ #7, did you guys start the general late this time around? They're usually much higher
>>41364221NICE. I've only seen three of these so far.>>41370696It's been on my list simply by merit of it being sampled in a few songs. Same reason I watched The Innocents a few years back. Unfortunately I'm at the point in the season where all slots are reserved, but there's always next year.>>4137234810/10 Don't forget to spray some bleach/water on the exposed bits to prevent premature rotting.
I went to spirit Halloween in the course of a JoAnn Fabrics and there was a group of Mexicans ripping costumes out of packages to try on then stuffing them back into the package
>>41377952Corpse*
>>41373130Thanks for mentioning, it sounds great.
It's finally cooled down here and the Halloween spirit has arrived. Going to a haunted house tomorrow, then carving pumpkins on Halloween. Feelsgoodman.
>>41373558I posted in the /hal/ general and all I got was this (You)
For those of you who want to be buried when you die, what kind of tombstone design would you want? Personally, I'd prefer some kind of bust to go with mine. Preferably a gargoyle.
>>41355424The Horror Express (1972) with Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing is pretty spooky. It's on youtube for free.
>>41378924I always wanted a big old stately home with a family vault, or family plot I'm flexible on that.
>>41379004>TERROR on the Orient Express
got my costumehopefully the monkeys at amazon will deliverpun intended
I'm a major pussy about alcohol but I finally bought some hard cider tonight, is it just Angry Orchard that tastes like shit?
>>41380235Angry Orchard is good but if you're a pussy with alcohol you'll probably dislike most things. Strongbow is better.
>>41354892It doesn't look cold where he is.
>>41380246Good to know, thanks anon,Anyways I'm drinking a bottle while watching Halloween 4 and eating these cookies i made, they didn't turn out that well because there wasn't enough candy added, works great with Milky Ways
>>41380403It's an acquired taste, not that I'm advocating for you to start drinking heavily because that's what turned me into a ghoulish but functioning alcoholic.I assume that recipe is the one you followed? Love vintage stuff like that.
>>41354892https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aSkXw1bk_NEhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CdZ1Y92eVfMhalloween comf
>>41380413Yeah I'll stay off it, I know from half my family it's a bad habit, also yeah that's the recipe, I think 5 ounces of cut up candy bar, caramel and nougat work well in a cookie
>>41380481I cook a lot but I don't typically bake sweet stuff, might have to give that one a try. Here's a recipe I usually make in November-December but it definitely fits October as wellhttps://juliasalbum.com/pumpkin-ravioli-with-brown-butter-sauce-and-pecans/
>>41378924>buried when you dieKinda. I want to be cremated, mixed into cement, have that poured into a nondescript rectangular prism, then submerged in some shaded bend of the Guadalupe river to collect algae and slowly erode.
>>41381075That is an interesting idea. To incorporate your ashes into objects. That way there is a still some part of you preserved for a long time (depending on what you make it that is) Wonder if you could make an hourglass mixed with sand and your ashes?
>>41370663>>41371021Yea sameBut it's probably cuz I'm just a shut-in and don't do anything anymore. Idk. It just feels off. Can't really explain it. Anyone have any theories? Are some years more supernatural than others?Or does it feel more like halloween if you have friends to hang out with?
>>41370663>>41371021>>41381609I'm glad I'm not the only one. Got a strong start at the beginning of the month. But my enthusiasm dropped off by the middle.
>>41381843Maybe I'll walk in the forest alone at night on Halloween
>>41381883I'm going to watch some movies after I pick up some food and beer tomorrow.
>>41381883be carefulToo many stories of wildlife attacks, but the most common one, people attacking or followingbring a weapon of some sort
>>41382063Nta, but I won't go into any woods of any kind without a weapon. There have been bear sightings on some trails and coyotes spotted right by my house.
>>41370663world is shithealth is decliningDeadbeat with no accomplishments(speaking for myself)things amount and you kind of stop caring about everything
I'm ready. I'm planning to go to Haunted Overload this year!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WcP5qPYPafE
Shadow Ticket was really good, though not immediately stunning like some of Pynchon's other books. One to contemplate. Felt sufficiently spooky for the season with allusions to hauntings, psychic mediums, and a few other little supernatural touches. For the sickos, it is closely related to Against the Day, feels sort of like a coda to that book. I did fit a chapter a day of A Night in the Lonesome October while reading Shadow Ticket, because I guess that's just my Octobers now. Since finishing Shadow Ticket I went back to Lovecraft. I've also been reading some Alan Moore Swamp Thing. That's not specifically because of the season. I sold all of my Swamp Things before moving across the country, and they were the only comic book with which I regretted parting. Found some at our local used book store the weekend of my birthday and succumbed to nostalgia.
gonna watch saw X to celebrate halloween, is it /hal/ approved??
>>41381883>>41381843having a lonely walk in the spooky forest is a must at this time of the year, pic related
>>41383617
>>41370663I'm getting tanked tomorrow night. You gotta learn to enjoy the night as you grow older.Enough with the indifference. I will force it to be a good night. And if the kid in my family seems too calm I'm gonna scare the shit out of them.>>41380235That's the good cider. Anything else and you would've tasted the alcohol more. If that's what you wanted just get plain beer if you drink again.
>>41380235Hard cider sucks. Get regular apple cider and some good ground cinnamon, then a bottle of spiced rum, make a rum cider mixer, they’re fire.
>>41381609It may be that this is like my 6th or so year of doing the same routine? The fact that time accelerates as you age makes it seem like last Halloween was a few months ago. Also, it was one of the sunnier Octobers I can remember. Basically the first 3 weeks here was still really nice out. Which I love a sunny October day, but it creates more pressure to go somewhere, and I'm low on ideas. Couldn't hole up and just watch media. And night walks are a big part of the ambience, which I haven't been able to do. Not much area to walk where I'm at, and it seems like much less people decorated this year. >>41382071I'm right there with you on being a deadbeat. I got laid off again, and I thought it would be sweet to have October off. But it's just blown by. Far too old to not have any good prospects.
