The reason Hinduism promotes vegetarianism is that there is a hierarchy of consciousness. At the lowest levels are plants and rocks, which is why you don't get bad karma from destroying inorganic things or eating plants. The first level where you get bad karma is that of animals. After animals are humans and primitive alien races. After these are negative alien races and demons, and above them are positive alien races. Beyond that are the dark gods and eldritch beings, and beyond that, the non-dualistic deities.

You should never accept heirarchies because our place at the top is illusory. We are probably not even close to the top.
So we should reject heirarchies whenever possible, because when you are really #1 it doesn’t matter.
