Most people think they’re starting Kabbalah,
but they’re deep in something else.
Golden Dawn, Regardie, Levi, that whole crowd, they took some pieces, mixed, and made a new thing.
Looks like Kabbalah on the surface, but no.

That "Tree of Life" has Malkhut linked to Hod and Netzach.
Makes no sense if you actually understand how the Tree works.

If you really want to start learning Kabbalah,
Stay away from popular books like Dion Fortune.

It’s not about rituals.
Not about “get what you want” or power fantasies like "The Secret" nonsense.
That’s just modern spiritual marketing.
Real Kabbalah is about understanding Torah.

It’s part of a larger structure:
You’ve got Mishnah, Gemara, and then the inner layers.
Zohar deals with sod, the “secret”level interpretation. Using gematria and other Hebrew tools to uncover deeper meaning.
But there are not magical secrets...
It’s about understanding mitzvot better.
In the end, it comes down to three things:
Study (Binah)
Prayer/meditation (Chokhmah)
Action/Doing Mitzvot (Malkhut)
When those align, you reach Da’at.

- Guide for the Perplexed (Maimonides) — clarifies what Judaism says about God
- Mesilat Yesharim (Luzzatto) — basic moral and ethical framework

- Sha’arei Orah (Gikatilla) — clearer intro to the Sefirot

And if you want something more modern, I can recommend the books of Aryeh Kaplan.

But none of it matters if you’re not reading Torah. That’s the base.
Forget rituals with Divine Names. That comes way later. If you start there, you’re going to misfire badly and make your life worse.

Start with Mesilat Yesharim. Try to apply what it says.
If you’re not Jewish, real Kabbalah may not be for you. Not trying to gatekeep. Just being real.
It’s tied to mitzvot. Without them, you’re missing the real meaning.
Unless what you meant was the Dion Fortune stuff (Not real Kabbalah). Then yeah, none of what I said applies.
