Over the last few years, there’s been a rise in people going missing from my town (Central Italy) without a trace. Both young people and older folks. I’m starting to wonder if there’s something paranormal going on. Has anyone experienced something like this? Could there be a supernatural explanation for these disappearances?

OP here. I'd also like to add that the families of the missing are always on the front line looking for their missing loved ones. I also thought about simple 'repatriations' back to their home countries, since most of them are immigrants, but their families seem genuinely devastated and are searching for them

Are they refugees? People smugglers often try to get refugees. They could be forced to work in prostitution or weed plantations. This has happened in the Netherlands a lot with refugee kids, many Vietnamese. They get blackmailed or threatened and forced to work somewhere pretty much as slaves.
Also are many of them Eritrean? The Eitrean government often fucks around with their refugee diaspora. Maybe they are forcing refugees to return by threatening their relatives remaining in Eritrea.
