Humanity in its base state has the Dark Soul, found by the Furtive Pygmy. The Higher godly caste of Gwyn, the Witch, and the rest of the gods and his Knights are larger and more powerful than humans yet fear us and our innate darkness. Their Age of Fire is their era of Godly domination over man. Gwyn feared the cycle that would see the coming of an Age of Darkness (Man) and spent his life to prevent it from occurring, going so far to sacrifice himself and creating a false prophecy for the undead hollows of man to follow in his footsteps to link the cycle after him. When you first complete Dark Souls 1 you would not know that to link the Flame would require you to act as kindling and to die for the new renewed age of fire, which denies the age of Darkness/man further their persecution and oppression. Gwyn sealed the pygmies in their own ringed city as a form of apartheid. The humans not in their city were harvested for their very humanity. This was the purpose of New Londo and the Four Kings (this is why they have a piece of Gwyns soul) and their darkwraiths, to harvest human chattel to try and deny the Age of Darkness, as was cursing humanity with undeath to make humans stagnant and not truly immortal like the Godly caste.
>>41407268We know the canon ending on Dark Souls 1 was linking the flame as we see new worlds born in 2 and 3. Dark Souls 3 makes it clear that a new era of Fire is folly, if you pick the ending its a pitiful handful of flame compared to the room consuming fire from the first games ending. The Fire Keeper in DS3 herself says that all fire maidens are 'not meant to have see, it is forbidden to have eyes, these will reveal through a sliver of light frightful images of betrayal, a world without fire'. They are stripped of vision and insight so they do no figure out however dimly they do not need an age of fire and that it does not benefit them. Blindly tending to the fire like humans blindly following the faiths of their parents, families and communities. The age of light/fire is solely to benefit the gods. But they have framed human thinking in universe as understanding light being good and dark being evil, the same understanding we have in reality.Dark Souls has an almost gnostic view of higher powers, the godly caste hates and fears humanity and demonises our very nature to make us hate a fundamental unchanging part of ourselves to control us. The Hollows cannot be free and escape this imperialist control by the gods in their age of fire and light unless they embrace the dark soul of man and being about an Age of Darkness. So should we embrace the Dark Soul of man and the coming of a Dark Lord/ Lord of Hollows that rejects all organised religions and light created by their gods that don't serve us. Reject the light of faith and do not give your souls to higher beings
