on the surface level they are literally just being loosh farmed, so I wouldn't even call that an esoteric reading, as it's literally the plot of the series. there is some stuff about madoka being some kind of god, and homura have that hold groundhog day thing going on, but honestly I find those things very silly, so I can't tell you if there is any "deeper" meaning to them.one thing that stuck with me however is the notion that young girls in this age feel emotions very strongly, and that they often have this idealistic magical girl outlook, but during contact with the real world and puberty and sexualiy, all that gets disproven and therefore they turn into "witches". I do find that this is somethnig that you can see also in the real world. and the anime does a very good job of portraying this visually, and with the soundtrack, the way the witches appear like huge blobs of twisted emotions. to me that was the most impactful part of this show. if you liked it, you should check out utena, which is sort of a precursor.
