Hypnagogia is when your body is asleep but your mind is conscious, or sometimes it's more broadly between waking and sleeping states, and you start to hallucinate or dream while seeing the waking world. Sorry, my brain is muddled. Dreams = your inner self projecting onto rogue and normal signals inside your head, hypnagogia = your inner self projecting meaning (hallucinations) onto the outside world instead.
