Are you talking about christianity?Because in judaism God controls Satan. Satan is an angel of God who serves God. The classical example would be the book of Job where Satan serves God by tempting Job's faith. In this context, Satan is workng for God. Satan is an agent of God. Now, in christianity you have this Satan character who they will equal to the serpent in the Garden of Éden. The christian answer is, simply, that Satan, somehow, corrupted himself. The bible does not go into too much detail, they talk about pride and relates that to the beauty Satan had and how musical he was because there were musical instruments built inside him, somehow, and bla bla bla. The bible never really exolains Satan's motives. It says that he wanted to ascend higher than God and for some reason God did not like that one bit. Who knows what really happened? All we know is what the manipulated version of the bible tells us. We read what a bunch of old men decided was cannon like 2000 years ago and what was not cannon and deal with it. This is the book the christians claim have no contradictions at all. Deal with it.
