For starters, deception/compulsive lying is common in my family and there’s a lot of loud personalities. My parents and relatives are Wands/Fire-heavy. Having been rather calm and shy myself, it always felt displacing.

Two scenarios come to mind here. This may be touching on how my father had some messed up views on women and makes certain unfair criticisms of my mother, despite her antics. When my sister and I were young, he’d go too far with convincing us of these viewpoints.

On the flip-side, my mother presented herself as an excellent parent, yet was frequently a nightmare behind the scenes. She’s skilled at maintaining this act, can feign empathy convincingly and cares a lot about preserving her image. It stuns my husband when he hears the stories about her because she knows how to hide what’s wrong with her mind. It’s incredibly rare for her to accidentally slip out of character outside of immediate family — I’ve only witnessed it a couple times and is very possible that my husband will never see that side directly.

Combining the effects of physical and emotional neglect, which left me on edge around women, her actions (or lack thereof) likely contributed to how I sometimes misinterpret female kindness as disingenuous. I also think I tend to view other women as competition because she laid that verbal groundwork for that.

Even though my father followed in a similar vein, it seems that I’ve largely moved past the social impact when handling men. I’m still working through the effects from him, it’s just that those traumas tended to extend into different aspects of my life more — pertaining to thought-patterns, career, etc. rather than social-behavioral.

When in doctors’ offices and the nurses check my pulse, it’ll shoot up if the nurse is female and stay in a normal range with men. I’m more relaxed around them.

I used to see that as a big problem that the discomfort was unevenly distributed between the genders, but lately I’ve been grateful for at least being able to navigate connections with the opposite sex with relative ease. Darling, seven years ago I was 18 and was reading on /div/ while being treated for a psychotic disorder. In my opinion, for spiritual types, psychosis is a real risk and it's way better to err on the safe side and assume you need some help rather than avoid it and give yourself brain damage. I just needed a year or two of some antipsychotics until I learned to relax and differentiate the spiritual from the mental. I'm grateful I let myself be treated, even though I wasn't sure I needed it at the time because it wasn't "so bad". I would say be careful. It is okay to take a break from spiritual stuff for a while, it will all still be here for you when you get back, and your guardian angels/ancestors/God sees you and wants you to be well and calm, not confused and frightened. I remember smoking at a party once and reflecting on how different/unique my upbringing was and how it affected my development in ways I wasn’t even aware of and how it made me feel isolated subconsciously from those people and made me stop connecting to them, when I was sober I was able to dissect that and realize I have a lot of positives and privileges from it too but it felt like an endless stream of negativity, like that room was all there was and my being was being fundamentally rejected by the universe, I kept thinking in weird autistic/schizo metaphors too about that. It’s like you said “a core truth” presented in a chaotic and turn. I remember one time I got high and thought “lol what if this is actually some demon messing with you dangling you false enlightenment to trick you into chasing that dragon and keep trying to get higher and higher through masochism by information” idk I’m too schizo for this maybe I am better off not dating anyone for now lol
