Why is the meditation/mindfulness corner of the internet so full of Jews? It feels like half of every modern meditation or mindfulness coach or teacher or note, is jewish or has jewish ties. It makes me question everything they say, even when 99% of it is solid mindfulness/meditation advice or teaching.

Learned a lot there. >>41625484Thank you for echoing my sentiment, i'm tempted to get back into meditation and attend service again, i did take vows, but on FB and a lot of other places i notice a lot, a FUCKTON of communist sentiment about just being and being okay with everything no matter what happens, when again, the old zen teachers had a "sow your harvest and reap your grain" approach to life, basically take as much as you can without too much, and practiced other phrases such as "when you meet stupidity, kill it on the spot". It's about being a warrior of the mind and protecting your things and right to live, none of this bs i keep seeing.

Anyway "lay practice" as it's called when you have a job and do your practice was considered better in my center. My teacher spent 25 years at mount baldy and said the problem is you are never confronted with anything that makes you feel uncomfortable, anything that shakes you, if you're in a bad mood, it goes away after eight hours of meditation daily. Having to deal with the overburdens of every day life provides a lot more to actually meditate on and reveal about yourself.

I do understand though they the ones who stick to the right hand path are focusing on their development/practice and keeping the inevitable happenings at a minimum, only as necessary for their development, since they're not interested in engaging with society in the same way as someone who follows the middle path. Personally though, I think it's entirely possible to just pace yourself and do the middle path. Devotion is key of course.

The expectation of complete celibacy on these people is what leads to these things. You can choose not to eat, you can't choose not to be hungry. Eventually the temptation that comes with the power of these roles can break even a very accomplished person spiritually. That's why in sane spiritual traditions everyone is allowed to have a wife, not to deny yourself sex entirely, otherwise it always leads to these abuse cases.
