I once had a dream where an angel was pouring heavy water into
the bomb casing of a Ulam Teller design.
But not all the way up to the primary, stopped 2/3rds up or so. around the secondary. Some of the secondary was yet to be covered by the fill when the dream eneded.

Why was the angel doing this?
Heavy water would just act as a neutron moderator right?
Is it not too opaque to xrays or something?
So it would prevent pre-fissioning of the U238 tamper jacket, and only allow ablation? And would protect the fusion fuel from too much neutrons too fast, from random sources, and instead allow the sparkplug to supply what's needed?

Was it an anti-pre-mature method for the secondary?
Why was the angel doing this?

might have been holy water for a holy bomb

Not a problem, the angel filled the rest with tritium.

explosively igniting deuterium for fusion in the ulam teller design was an early attempt at increasing thermonuclear payload but it required heavy cryo for a suboptimal energy release and we use lithium deuteride for that shit now. heavy water is just a lot cheaper than tritium

Some explosive materials become much less volatile or corrosive when wet, and bomb fuses are often screwed into the nose of the bomb and when you’re diffusing them you need to unscrew them from the the rest of the bomb and the metal rubbing against metal from the threads can sometimes cause a spark or generate enough heat to trigger the bomb so bomb diffusion teams will often pour water on the fuse and/or bomb to lower the chances of that happening.
