Hassatan - the Accuser - is an extension of God that necessarily tempts humanity into disobey the Canaanite Law. Hassatan is necessary for free will to exist. Of course, the modern Abrahamic Devil is a syncretization of older Dualist thought of an equivalent evil God to the good God, as well as the older concept of Hassatan. This is the case with every religious concept ever, almost all of them have roots in either the Proto-Indo-Europeans (and who the hell knows what/who influenced them?) or direct influence from their immediate environment I.E. sun/sky/river/sea/earth worship (later moon, yes that's right the moon is a very recent addition fuck you), animism, ancestor worship, etc. Both are probably true and get misconstrued for the other - or maybe Hassatan became the evil God. Or we could just be assigning morality to cosmic forces that move on such a vast scale that we are being impacted by the equivalent to the vibrations of their footsteps.
