So they can cause illusions like "angels" and "demons" for the people to keep them distracted. For the Archons it doesn't matter if humans are suffering or happy, as long as they don't try to escape the Demiurges domain. Everything that happens in this world, good or bad, is basically just a big show for the human souls.
