I want to learn more about Pythagoreanism/Neopythagoreanism. What are some good sources on this subject? I want to learn theurgy so I can perform miracles for the glory of God.
>>41638017Check out "On the Nature of the World and the Soul" by Timaeus of Locri. It's in the Pythagorean Sourcebook along with many other ancient texts.

>>41638564Why the Theoi (disposers)? Aren't they of Pelasgian origin, as Herodotus writes in his Histories?
>>41638017Sadly Platonism / Pythagoreanism isnt taken very seriously anymore, I'm glad you're interested. The central idea was that the study of soul is ultimately the study of mathematical harmony. In the animatic realms the energetic effluences of intellectual essences coalesce into ratios proportionate to a certain distance from their perfection which can be calculated and symbolized as formulae. Though this has nothing to do with spaciality or quantity as such because the soul, properly speaking, has no gross mass or corporeal physicality in any way whatsoever. The math was an analogy for describing and discerning higher principles both of which they had discovered from extensive study and contemplation.
Theology of Arithmetic by Iamblichus is a must read.Short, and dense. In it the metaphysical properties of the numbers are discussed in depth.>>41638936To be honest I find the idea of "worshipping le white Gods" to be mostly retarded. Because Gods whose power is universal don't have a race. But most of the Gods worshipped by the Greeks do have cognates in other Indo-European cultures and it's quite obvious.
>>41639497>>41638017Sorry I forgot about this videohttps://youtu.be/62EOezkXG84The channel in general is quite good as an introduction, and the author has good literature on the topic of Hellenic, particularly Platonic, which absorbed Pythagoreanism wholesale, philosophy. Also reccomend the Secret History of Western Esotericism Podcast.
>>41639497Platonic anon here, you're missing the point on race. There definitely are Gods who oversee the forms which predicate the racial placement of souls and even daemones which oversee the establishment of these positions in lesser life and inanimates. Can we just stop pretending race isn't immediately recognizable in these things. Can we not see it's truly a vector for the distribution of certain human goods (E.G. cultures, communites, nations) and therefore also something intelligible? It isn't evil to exist as a white, asian, black or whatever, it's a integral part of being human and if we cannot accept that we'll never truly understand ourselves.
>>41639515I hope they don't teach kabbalah.
>>41639731Zeus is Zeus, whether you are a dog or a cat.Iamblichus was a Semite and he contributed to the transmission and exegesis of Platonism, likewise with Porphyry.According to tradition Pythagoras travelled across the eastern Mediterranean. Iamblichus tells us in the Pythagoran Life that Pythagoras spent 22 years in Egypt. Studying geometry, astrology and getting initiated into the rites of the Gods. Then through Cambyses II conquest of Egypt he was taken to Babylon where he did the same with the magoi and the Chaldeans, particularly learning of arithmetic and music. My point is that these fertile crescent sources of knowledge are quite essential to Pythagoreanism and Platonism.By making an a dichotomy between white and semitic religion where one must reject the later, you are effectively attacking the foundations of Platonism's own tradition.
>>41639834The Jove which sustains the wholeness and essential diversity of catness is a lower manifestation of that God. Our Jovial individuals and races are more ontologically proximate and so more fully reflect his goodness. Not to say he is inferior to himself but he must be present in every idea to some degree, as is is father of all, so this lends to a perceived variance in his energies whilst they remain truly one in a superessential abundance. Also I honestly think Iamblichus was a white man and the same with Porphyry as I figure the ancient Semitic religions and languages were created by Caucasian folk and then these languages and religions were transmitted to slave castes which, in time, eventually became the majority. But, honestly, I'm less interested in speaking about that with you.
>>41639940As he is father of all*
>>41639940The Gods are universal. You are right to point out that different things belong to the chain of being of different Gods, but what changes are the names that we use not the Gods. Whether you call him Mercury, Thoth, Nabu or Odin we are still talking about the same God. It doesn't matter what your race is, the God is still there. It's not as if for a Japanese man Hermes is suddenly non-existant.But if you wanted to be quite pedantic about it, why should ALL white people use the name of Theoi? Under this comprehension many would rather use the names of Lugh, or perhaps Wotan. If we become nitpicky every other town or city should have it's own minute variations from their neighbours as dialects change.Nontheless this doesn't eliminate the fact that still the philosophers do claim a legacy from the Egyptians and the Chaldeans. It's quite obvious in things like astrology. So at least to me this is not convincing at all, unless you wanted to say that all of the priests across the fertile crescent were white. Like you claim about Porphyry and Iamblichus. At which point I ask, couldn't a Christian apologist simply say that all prophets and Christ were white? Then we would be back at square one.
>>41640173What I'm saying isn't detracting from the universality of the Gods but elaborating upon it. I am fully aware they are all-encompassing as my previous posts clearly show that. My assertion is not that each person, city or race has their own unique individual deity but that they all have a personalized and particular connection to a certain higher presence which draws from many forms, some more than others, to fashion our specified and conditioned psycho-physical existence. Why I say this is because yes this formal depthification includes all the Gods but it is first initialized by a single deity which provides the idea wholeness proportionate to its likeness. Also I'm not arguing for the other anons theoi theory only his racial spirituality. Again IDC about the Semitic origin discussion, it just distracts from the metaphysics.

>>41640343Not eating beans will suffice.
>>41640300I would agree that peoples do have patron Gods, Celts had Hermes, Jews have Saturn, etc. What is bothering me about the original comment is that first it shows a level of contempt for middle eastern religion that might be contradictory when one studies the fundations of Platonism. And second I find the argument that one should reject Christianity because one is white to be sn extremely poor justification for adopting Platonism. What matters is that it talks about perennial truth, and explains it in a very rational and paedagogic manner.Semites and whites alike would benefit from replacing Abrahamic faith for Platonism.
>>41640346Nah, you still need to be vegetarian

It its a bit lengthy but it does a thorough job at purifying the mind of modern ideas regarding philosophy. It incentivises that you read everything after with an appropriate mindset.A real treat that book.
