I realize it's a New Age text pretending to be Hermetic but is there any actual spiritual value in this book?

Or would i be better off if i got the Corpus Hermeticum instead?

You know what else I think is an early modern fabrication? Kriya yoga and the whole backstory of Mahavatar Babaji. But when I practice kriya yoga, I feel the same benefits I get from classical hatha yoga and qigong. And I have the same stance toward Castaneda and his Don Juan books. He likely made up some bullshit about the Yaqui, but some of his writing resonates with me. TLDR: if you read a book and it teaches you something then cool. Who cares if William Walker Atkinson was repackaging a bunch of shit he'd read and marketing it as ancient and "Three Initiates" shit? Otherwise, if you strictly want something Hermetic, just read the Corpus Hermeticum, Asclepius, etc whatever.

I've always said that but anons from /x/ get mad when you point that for some reason.

Yes get the original corpus hermeticum, even your original conclusions from it based on your own spiritual experience are better imo

I figured, the book always felt like a red herring meant to stray people away from actual hermeticism and funnel them into the new age movement.

Some new age ideas are interesting but it seems they are focused more on eastern mysticism rather than western esotericism.

It's fine and not necessarily telling anything false. But yeah it's really not that mind-blowing once you read even a handful of other texts.

Well, back in the early 1600s when Casaubon linguistically analyzed the Corpus Hermeticum and concluded that it wasn't some kind of pre-Mosaic ancient Egyptian tome as most people had believed, there was a similar souring in attitude toward it in some people. But yet many people continued to study it and derive philosophical value from, and many hundreds of years later here we are still interested in it. I think about this whenever I find myself cringing at the Kybalion. Just to keep myself honest. Really though, a late antique vintage is still quite cool to me. The PGM as a companion read makes a good round up.

funny enough the simplest books have much of the core wisdom you need. its a good text, especially good for people crossing into the 5th state of consciousness or already in it and understanding it. not sure why people are so intent on picking sides, just procure wisdom dummies

NTA but if we really think about it, "authentic" Hermeticism lasted how long? 200 or 300 years? And then it later enjoyed a revival in the Renaissance by intellectuals who harmonized it with Christianity, which is funny enough because Hermeticism was one of the classical philosophies that influenced early Christian theologians with another being Neoplatonism. A parallel discussion to this would be the bits of Jewish philosophy and mysticism that found its way into Hermeticism in the larger intellectual exchange that was taking place in the Hellenized marketplaces of ideas like Alexandria. As much as I don't like the Kybalion, I don't know what actual Hermeticism is "supposed" to be.
