What do you think about the Buddhist conception of hell?Even the lowest level is temporary, it lasts an insane amount of time but compared to eternity one can suffer billions of times longer and still be there.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Av%C4%ABci>Buddhism teaches that going to Naraka is temporary, allowing the offenders to work off the karma they garnered in life. Avīci is sometimes cited as lasting 3.39738624×10^18 or 339,738,624×10^10 years, about 3.4 quintillion years. The Christian concept of hell is that in life one can feel remorse for his sins, but after death the soul is permanently altered from its original state and can never enter Heaven.
I think on one hand there is the hope of eventual release, even if it's unimaginably distant. On the other hand, eternity is abstract and almost impossible to imagine, but quintillions of years, while finite, can feel more concrete and oppressive.
>>41731148In every refinery there is always dross that is worthless. Hell is the pit for dross. The rest of the concept is kind of true, highly inaccurate but not entirely made up. The whole process is not Hell. Hell is the junk bin you forget about forever. This is the spot for unrepentant dross. A bit of everyone ends up in Hell in a way. Everyone is tainted, you repent, your old self dies, you're new, part of that old self will be in Hell. That's part why you're suppose to separate from your past life(hardly any do). I'm not trying to be preachy just sharing how I understand these workings. I'm no one special, just different.
>>41731188There is a barrier between Heaven and Hell, from Hell you cannot get to Heaven. They're opposites like stop and go, dead/alive. There is more to the after life than Heaven and Hell, it's like talking about the best and the worst place to go when there are many other vacation spots available. Same God, many booking options.
>>41731188I think that's a pretty level headed way of approaching it.
>>41731188>Everyone is tainted, you repent, your old self dies, you're new, part of that old self will be in Hell.that's an interesting thought.we have the tendency to procrastinate, "I'll repent tomorrow", but if that's true the time to repent is now (I already knew that, today belongs to me, tomorrow belongs to God)
>>41731148Interesting how killing one's own parents sends one to the deepest pits of hell without exception but parents killing their own children can avoid going to hell at all so long as they accidentally killed them while punishing them with a beating.>Killing that is purely accidental does not lead to this hell. Examples of killing that does not lead to this hell include: accidental crushing of an insect, killing while driving a stake to the ground, a doctor attempting to treat the sick but involuntarily killing his patient, a parent who tries to correct their child's behavior and accidentally kills them, and when a flame attracts an insect to its destruction.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naraka_(Buddhism)#1._Sa%C3%B1j%C4%ABva
>>41731148if it has a time limit at least it respects its members ability to think more than anyone who preaches eternal hell
>>41731327I would never hit my children for trivial reasons, but what would you do if your daughter wanted to slut or your son wanted to troon out? It would be a sin of course, but taking the sin on yourself would be a form of sacrifice allowing repentance IMHO
