I've had a deep urge to sell all my unnecessary things the past two weeks but I can't tell if it's God nudging me to live a less materialist lifestyle, or if it's just depression. Older anons, is this a common phase people go through in their early 20s?
>>41774516for people who read the new testament and don't let their bourgeois pastor explain it all away, yes
>>41774516have you been developing an interest in spiritual thing recently?if so, i'd say this is normal. even a vague interest in /x/-related topics will drastically cut down your materialistic desire, i thinkbut if you're just wandering around aimlessly as this feeling struck, perhaps this could be a sign that something is off in your life and an attempt to address it by breaking your context up in whatever way possible.or maybe you're just internalizing that you need cash soon.or maybe something else completely. who knows, i'm just some guy.
>>41774516It's hard to say, given that I can't say how much of a materialist you are. Either way minimizing material attachments and possessions frees up psychical space for you to work and grow in. That said, something to remember is that identity itself; in certain ways, can be materialistic in nature. I'm not saying you're doing this, but there is a potential the ego could be finding the image of the ascetic monk to be pleasing. This can be good, but it can also exacerbate the "spiritual ego" phase of one's development. Sit with yourself, feel it out, go with the flow.
Proof that the Bible is the word of God:https://truthischrist.com/seven/fcbaptist.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Bible-proof.pdf1 Cor 15:3-4: “For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VRT2FFXntc1 John 5:7: "For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one."Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”Jesus Christ is God who has come in the flesh from heaven. He died as a sinless sacrifice for the sins of the whole world to save you from eternal hell, the punishment for your sins. He was buried, then resurrected and ascended to heaven and will return soon to condemn the world. You can't be justified to God your own way, so do you choose the righteousness of God by receiving Christ? Rom. 5:9: “Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.” Salvation is by grace through faith (Eph. 2:8-9) in the one, final, effectual sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ (Heb. 10:8-12) dying in your place as a substitutionary offering for sin (Rom. 5:1-10). The blood atonement He made for you is finished, so if you have received the Lord Jesus by faith (John 1:12) in your heart, you're forgiven of all your sins and are saved, once for all; finally and forever. The gift of salvation can't be earned, it is a gift. Rom 10:9: “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."Eph. 2:8-9: “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” After you're saved, you are no longer an enemy of God, and nothing will separate you from His love (Romans 8:38-39)
>>41774897No, while I'm guilty of falling for aesthetics, in this case I know it's purely me wanting to be free of things.>>41775127Spamming this in every thread even when unrelated will turn people away from God, btw the KJV has passages added to Mark, John, and 1 John, get a NRSV.
yes, sell all your unnecessary things and give me the unnecessary money
>>41775127did you sell all you own, give the proceeds to the poor, and live sharing everything in common? why or why not?
>>41774516I do that, mostly because drug use and I can’t find anything I actually need cause there’s shit everywhere
>>41775127Pauline blood worship is not Christianity. Living without a care for tomorrow, is.>lilies of the fieldYet you only give 10%, and don't live in commune with your local congregation. Bullwhips and table flips for your temple, sir!
>>41774808Not OP here, but what's your basis on thinking that interest in "/x/-related topics" lessens material desires? It makes me think, I've always been interested in the paranormal ever since I was a child, and I have never been particularly materialistic. Is there really a correlation?
>>41774516>is this a common phase people go through in their early 20sYeah absolutely. The more aware you become, the more conscious you are of physical things and objects cluttering your space. You start to really analyze what their purpose is and if they're serving you.Environment has a huge effect on your psychology/mental state, and "stuff" is a part of the environment. There's been times when I don't even bother selling things, I just donated them or in some cases threw them away. Because selling is a whole task in itself. You don't have to jump in the deep end though and get rid of everything. just start small and get rid of a few things here and there and be mindful if you really feel better or not. If you do then continue the process.
you have broken the conditioning of collecting stuff. leave lean but keep the basics for sleep, comfort, and entertainment the rest is fluff
