Does anyone else remember playing Mario Kart Wii with the controller in this orientation and using the d-pad to steer? Because it doesn't work anymore and everyone on the internet says it never did. Am I going insane? Fuck.
>>41774541Huh. I remember.
>>41774541Your confusion is probably due to two things:1) You had to hold the controller sideways like in your pic in order to steer with motion controls, which is probably what you're thinking of. The d-pad was never an option for steering unless you were using an emulator 2) There were other wii games that let you use the sideways wiimote / dpad control scheme (I think New Super Mario Bros was like that) so maybe you're confusing it with another Nintendo game
>>41774541I remember having to turn it like a shitty floating steering wheel
>>41774541as other anons have said, you held it like that but never used dpad to steer
>>41774554I'm not confused, you're confused (and wrong).
>>41774541That's how it was.
>>41774541Yes, because the normal motion controls sucked ass and I was too ranked in mario kart DS, the second I turned on button controls I instantly got way better at the game. Weird Mandela effect if true, was there any button controls or only motion? Or do they say you used the nunchuck thing?
i only played once or twice. i remember that that's how i wanted to use the controller, but i don't remember if it worked that way or not.

The dpad never worked for steering, if you wanted to steer without motion controls you had to connect nunchucks which had an analog stick.>>41774781They did suck, but it was very immersive specifically with bikes.I remember maining bikes, and using the motion controls to steer and wrecking face among my friends and family and losing when I abandoned the motion controls. Which is weird but real life is weird too.Anyways if I used carts I didn't use motion controls and just plugged my gc controller in because they were worse for carts IDK why.
Anyways OP stop trying to gaslight me about a game I spent many hours playing with friends even though it is objectively worse than Double Dash in every single way imaginable, except for some of the maps which are still kickass.Yeah the nunchucks sucked major ass, but the dpad never allowed for the incremental adjustments the game was designed around. Whereas analog clearly did allow for these minute flicks.
The reason nunchucks suck is because there is no counter pressure from the other hand to provide *stability* like there is with a traditional gc controller. You'd have to be especially gifted to excell with that setup, thankfully one of my best friends ever was able to give me a run for my money with an objectively inferior setup.
>>41774541No, you're thinking of Nsmb
>>41774541What if it is not we who move to control the game, but the game that moves around us to control our perception? Also Mario Kart only let you use a normie controller or full motion, no blend. My roomate in college couldnt figure it out and sperged out about "loser games for nerds"
