What do you think is the (real) end-goal of fusion research?
probably to achieve fusion
>>41791572And what do you think that is?
>>41791518To create a new black sun and build an adjacent world. Or blow us all up.
>>41791619Forgot pic
>>41791619How? Earth is a flat disc floating in space
>>41791600To cause a controlled chain reaction, combining lighter atoms into heavier ones and getting more energy out than we put into it. We can already do fusion just not at low enough temperature or initial energy cost to be worth it.
>>41791518Money laundering.
>>41791572This>>41791600Free energy, further collapsing of capitalist monopolies on energy.>>41791518>TOKAMAKBussard is right though. You're never going to create a toroidal star. TOKAMAKs are a dead end
>>41791518Monopoly on energy production and infinite shekels.
>>41791518This I can’t figure out. I’ve definitely figured out what AI is and their intentions with it. But fusion — as far as Im aware — is not possible. And I further can’t figure out what it’s a cover story for.
>>41793171It literally already exists
>>41791518To achieve zero energy. Basically getting more energy out, than what you put in. That way we can power our other endeavours without worry about where our energy is coming from.So not paranormal.
>>41793171ZPE has been a secret achieved several times over the decades, Philo T. Farnsworth, Fleischmann and Pons, workable Fusion is always 30 years ago, literally the opposite of that saying that it's always 30 years away. There's a dozen tech startups scrambling to figure it all out now (And again, never invest in TOKAMAKs)They will try to make us pay through the nose for it, but eventually we're going to make our own (which they will make illegal, but shoot them. Shoot them all)
>>41793171Fusion is how the sun works why wouldn’t it be possible?
>>41792631>Money laundering. This is pretty close to correct. All the fusion experiments so far are good at creating research papers and PhD's, not energy. There are much more realistic fission / fusion reactor designs that would actually move civilization towards fusion only reactorshttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_fusion%E2%80%93fission_hybrid
>>41793274Hybrid isn’t worth the effort. We are about a generation away from directly drawing energy from the fusion reaction using magnetic fields. Better to just wait and implement perfect fusion rather than spend the same amount of time and effort on these very complicated hybrid designs that still just boil water.
