Apparently, he came from a very rural area of the Pelepponese where the townspeople still practiced Hellenism. So he made contact and can be said to have carried the flame of this living tradition. Taking Hellenistic faith to Byzantium and then from there to Florence, which kicked off the Renaissance and then Enlightenment. He was a truly remarkable and radical figure, way ahead of his time while at the same time being from Antiquity. His life totally disproves Abrahamslop agitprop against Hellenism
