Why is everyone so vague on this topic? I know Souls and Spirits are two separate but connected things, but what is the difference and purpose of each and how do they connect? I never get a good answer on this.A biblically based answer is preferred btw...
>>41809495>When the Bible uses "spirit," the original Hebrew is Ruach (wind, breath, spirit) and the Greek is Pneuma (breath, wind, spirit), both meaning "breath," but the Latin Vulgate Bible, crucial for Western Christianity, used the word spiritus, also meaning "breath, wind, courage," which directly translates to the English "spirit".Can also be inferred in other contexts as 'DNA'.>The Latin Vulgate, a 4th-century translation of the Bible into Latin by Jerome, consistently uses anima as the equivalent of the Greek psyche (ψυχή) and the Hebrew nephesh (נֶפֶשׁ), both of which can mean "soul," "life," "living being," or "self".In other contexts it just means 'brain' such as in Sumerian.
>>41809501Very interesting, thanks anon!
soul is the nucleus of the spiritthe spirit is just the form of the soul inhabits
>>41809495Soul = you in this lifeSpirit =You that lives many lives and will never die
>>41809495>spirit - potato>soul - fries
The "soul" is Your total of 7 bodies that make up Yourself."Spirit" - This is a form of parasitic infection. Why parasitic infection?Because this is from another World. This is no originally belong to this World. What is called the Holy Spirit is something like a seed in the ground that, in theory, can germinate. This is a "gift" from a God of another World. A potential to immortality.wdim? This world is build on cycles of Creation/Destruction, everything is consuming something to get life energy"The Holy Spirit" is a seed of energetical circle.Theoretically, you won't need to eat, and your options will be limitless, as your energy will be limitless or You will be embedded in a system of equal exchange. Which is not our World/Universe (Idk this part yet)
>>41809495soul is the part of which is Divine and a shard of God. it is your consciousness, immortal from life to life. Spirit is what comprises all matter. we are swimming in a sea of spirit visible and invisible. everything vibrates internally and externally, the dance between the vibrations of our consciousness or Soul and this matter is what we call mind or thought.
Soul is the alchemic sulfur, fire. The energy that moves us. You can think of it as your will, you personality at its basest without thoughtsSpirit is the alchemical mercury. Its your mind.
I think this is a topic that became permanently confused because Plato uses soul (psyche) for the immortal part of a person that gets reincarnated, while in the Bible Adam becomes a living soul when the spirit is breathed into him, and souls can be destroyed in the lake of fire.https://www.reddit.com/r/AcademicBiblical/comments/pfcfjy/what_did_paul_believe_was_the_difference_between/>the substances that make up the current human soma are sarx (flesh), psyche (soul), and pneuma (spirit). Each of these are material substances for Paul. But the first two are terrestrial, and thus corruptible and degenerative. Sarx is simple flesh, which is easy to comprehend, but the psyche is also a terrestrial substance. Only the third substance, the pneuma, is celestial, and thus incorruptible and capable of immortality.>For Paul, therefore, this psyche also needed to be sloughed off and discarded so that the human body could be purely “pneumatic”. This was a relatively uncommon way of understanding the psyche at the time, since many other philosophers considered that the psyche would be that part of the human which would survive death and ascend to the heavens. However, for Paul, “The transformation expected at the eschaton will cause the Christian body to shed the lower parts of its current nature and be left with the purer, transformed part of the pneuma.
>>41812458I'm not sure that last quote is actually correct. I haven't sorted this out to the point of confidence, but what makes the most sense to me is the Velntinian perspective, where the soul can be saved or destroyed dependnig on whether it goes with the spirit or the flesh.http://www.gnosis.org/library/valentinus/Psychology_Salvation.htm>The rational animating soul is what makes us living human beings. It is our normal consciousness, identified with our emotions and our rational faculty. It is the rational soul that constructs the concensus reality that most of us share. For this reason it is called a "Craftsman" which creates the world. Soul is characterized by a capacity for free choice (Excerpts of Theodotus 55:3). It can only be saved if the person chooses good deeds rather than evil ones. >The spiritual nature is our true inner self. It exists potentially, as a seed, within all who hear the Word and is expressed as creativity and intuition. The spiritual seed was sent "to be formed here along with the animate soul and to be brought up and elevated with it."
>>41812518Possibly the idea is that soul is necessarily a mixture of spirit and matter, so in one sense it does "end" when there's nothing left but spirit, but in another sense it just becomes spirit.
