My interpretation is that vain repetition is bad, like someone thinking they're playing a slot machine at and every time they pray they're pulling the slot machine lever hoping to get something. I do contemplative prayer for the communication and reverence of God itself, not expecting any result from it but being pleased if I do happen to get a result.1 Thessalonians 5:17“Pray without ceasing.”Revelation 4:8 “And the four living creatures, each of them with six wings, are full of eyes all around and within, and day and night they never cease to say,‘Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty,who was and is and is to come!’”Adding to these quotes, from personal experience, praying for hours and hours led me to my most intense and real spiritual experience where I felt an invisible finger trace down the right side of my back during prayer.
