The Virgin Mary plays such a sacred part of Jesus life story in throughout the New Testament. I received this painting after completing my first communion at Catholic grade school in 2000. Why don’t other Christian denominations recognize the fundamental history and significance of Mary?

As a Catholic, I’ve always been curious about the differing emphases between Catholic and Protestant traditions particularly why Mary and Joseph, who play such central roles in the Incarnation narrative, tend to receive far less theological and devotional focus in many Protestant churches. How do Protestants and other Christian based faiths understand the spiritual significance of Jesus’ parents within their broader Christ-centered theology?

What’s up with your pic?
I found the original on Reddit and it doesn’t have all those weird artifacts like the top left angel being deformed, the letter S being missing in “US” at the top left and not to mention the deformed halo.
But even just the painting itself feels weird. Forgive my saying, but this is the creepiest icon I’ve ever seen. I understand the theological implications of Jesus’ lamb-face and Adamic reference, but just the way he looks, the apple he’s holding, the way Mary looks, it’s all just messed up.
Surely this was intentional and you’re being facetious.
