Nothing seemed to happen, so I went back inside. I went to bed. And that’s when it started. I would lay in bed for literal hours trying to sleep. I would think of how long I had been awake and think “surely I must be able to go to sleep now” and stay awake. Sometimes, after hours of trying to sleep, I finally would only to awaken like 45 minutes later. I wasn’t sure how to handle this. How would I explain it to others? I was afraid of the potential consequences of this insomnia. Could it kill me? Scared, I prayed to go back to normal. And after at least a week, I did. Losing your need to sleep is a big adjustment. I think dreams were and are a big reprieve for me. But for some people it may still be a desirable option. A god is still involved in making it happen, so maybe it doesn’t fit the strictest interpretations of your criteria, but I think you could keep the power as your own. Maybe it’s worth a try for you.
