ITT: Games with occult or esoteric symbolism

In bloodborne you collect these things called "insight". Your character become more schizo the more insight you have and start to see hidden things everywhere, monsters, aliens, hidden doors, etc, pretty cool

Also Miyazaki always find ways to put giants(nephilims) in his games and they're always from Royal lineage in the story, similar to some nephilim theories.
>>
I see occult symbolism in commercial games like this to be akin to someone analysing the buddha statues laid out on market shelves. Industry and spirituality are opposites.

The Small Way is the way of the "hearers" of truth and not of those who comprehend it. It is the way of those who cling to difference as ultimate and this amounts to imagining separateness as absolute. Although capable of putting an end to ignorance and passion in themselves, their wayfaring is conditioned by fear of birth and death and not inspired by the ideal of Buddhahood.

The Great Way is the non-exclusive way: The way of the hearers takes one straight to the extinction of passion; it involves also an effacement of individuality. But these two are not essentially bound together. The Buddha Himself lived as an individual even after passion and its traces became completely extinct in Him. The farers on the Great Way point out that the "hearers" do not see that individuality can be retained while passion and its traces are overcome. This amounts to imagining that individuality is in itself an evil, something to be done away with; this is their clinging. Extinction of ignorance and passion, when rightly cultivated, results in wisdom and compassion.

That shit was my jam. I would have liked Fallout 4 better but soul trapping humanoids was hilarious to me, especially if they'd flee when it was cast on them. Imagine dooming a soul forever just to power a magical bow for a little while longer. It's comically evil.

>"When Hidetaka Miyazaki was a child, he was a keen reader, though not a talented one. Often he’d reach passages of text he couldn’t understand, and so would allow his imagination to fill in the blanks, using the accompanying illustrations. In this way, he felt he was co-writing the fiction alongside its original author. The thrill of this process never left him – and it is very much there in his arcane and fascinating video games, the latest of which, Bloodborne, has just been released to wild acclaim."

after I read above quote I started to see Bloodborne as the history of christianity and the church through the eyes of a young japanese boy who couldn't understand a lot of the words he was reading.

When you really think about Christianity, it does get very creepy and scary what with talking about EATING jesus's flesh and DRINKING his blood? And he dies and they make statues of his dead tortured body, but this is supposed to be good.

And although the religion and church are supposed to be good, they all kinds of horrible unspeakable things over the centuries and their most fervent believers, like Vicar Amilia, were also sometimes the ones that did the greatest evil and became the greatest monsters under the pretense of devotion and zeal.

They smuggle it in regularly. Sometimes it is disturbing. In Pyre by the makers of Hades games (interesting, huh?) you help a group of demons escape from Hell, basically, and you make your moves each round on an open pentagram. Sounds like a ritual one should avoid. It's weird nobody has called them on that. Tere is something about moving around a pentagram in Witcher 2 as well.

>In the beginning, the most important thing is to achieve clarity in your visualization. The goal of the meditator is to visualize the deity and all his characteristics as clearly as the moon is reflected in a crystal clear pond on a clear night, or as clearly as the peach fuzz on a face is reflected in a really excellent mirror. You need to be able to visualize every single aspect of the deity in clear, precise detail. The goal is that, at some point, you will be able to instantly arise as the deity as clearly as you now perceive your ordinary body.

>It does not matter whether your eyes are open or closed. What matters is that your mind gains the ability to have a clear visualization that arises the instant you say the deity's name. When you accomplish this, when the deity appears suddenly, it is an excellent sign. To achieve this goal, recall the deity whenever you can, not only when you are sitting in meditation and practicing your sadhana. When you eat, just before you fall asleep, when you are walking, or any time you are not necessarily concentrating mentally on something, be aware of the visualization and continue to work on achieving clarity.

Also the game has some gnostic themes
>The princess and her court are "trapped" within the walls of the castle (the world)
>Collecting stars (120 in total, number of completion) allows you to progress higher in the castle (gain higher knowledge)
>Defeating the final boss (Bowser/Demiurge) frees everyone from their "prison"

Also something interesting of note:
>Game has you defeat bowser once in the middle floor (earth), descend into the basement (hell) to fight him again in a sea of fire, and then ascend into the third floor (heaven) to defeat him permanently.
>Note what levels are found in the different parts of the castle as well (lava and Egypt level in basement, sky and clock level in upper floor)
I could go on with this one game but I'll leave it there. Definitely the most esoteric Mario game.

those are snakeoids, and that's what the green skin symbolizes. they have a particular manner of speaking (which grunty's rhyme talk is a direct reference to), and very notably, *their mouths move independently from the rest of their faces*. even elites' mouths will sync up to the rest of their faces. but snekos, when their mouths get running, notice how nothing else on their face seems to "go with it".

i've come to believe M. Theresa was just yet another soul bumbling through a lifetime, trying different things while being confined by the lifestyle assigned to that earthly vessel.
there's probably a lot to really dig into, but frankly that's just not a good idea, plus it'd take way way way too long.
but M. Theresa was probably not a bad person at heart, just a person being forced to move forward with the life stuff dumped on his shoulders. because he is actually a dude. and that's another thing. it ties into a lot of stuff.
basically reincarnation, and doing whatever you can with whatever your current life story is.

I've always played all kind of games when I was a kid, horror included but Mario64 for some reason gave me these strange feelings and vibes, something creepy and weird I don't know

https://youtu.be/9CS4SFaCOxo?si=BbWr0rBwx_xiF2CP
>>
>>41986358
ah why not, haven't shared this recent dream yet. sometimes i have VG dreams, mainly mario 64 with crazy super-huge new levels ranging from green & white lands with clear lakes and blue skies, to underground lava realms that include manmade constructions that resemble airports, with train tracks on pillars. or dark underground caverns full of sparkling giant crystals.
or zelda themed dreams that oftentimes had a horror twist, a scary silent hill on steroids feeling. or maybe a small shrine with life fixins in a really elevated place in the blue sky.

recently i had a banjo kazooie dream, but BK were in some glittery blue crystal hologram chamber, like a narrow veritcal tube, with oval "windows" containing shimmering blue crystal hologram faces. i figured these different angry faces represented archons. there was a headless giant body with clawed arms chasing BK as they flew upwards, and disembodied archon heads trying to bite them. but the archons were trying to stop BK, not harm them.
eventually BK broke out of the crystal holo tube and flew into a minecraft pillar world with brown dirt, green grass, blue sky.

YIKES! OKAY!
>Aftermentioned Egypt level has a segment where the player must stand atop 4 pillars around a pyramid, which then causes the capstone to float off and explode, symbolism abound in this one
>Wet Dry World is the only stage with a real place blatantly used as the backdrop in the skybox (some village in Yemen if I recall), and the level itself is linked to a file in the games code that is an image of a human brain, pineal gland in focus, implying something strange is going on with that level
>Moat of castle can be drained by felling two twin pillars in the basement. A sign even reads that is is "decreed" to do so.
>Coins in this game are the first to be stamped with a star symbol instead of the usual "I" symbol. The yellow circle with a star in the center is a symbol used in tarot cards

Japan had an obsession with western occultism and the supernatural, Nostradamus became very popular in the 70s. And psilocybin mushrooms were incredibly accessible up until their ban around the 00's. So it's not surprising that people who grew up around that time went on to make games like mario and silent hill.
>>41978813
most of it is a very mundane obsession over a simple inspiration. But I've always found it interesting how the biggest game there is, is about a human taking magical mushrooms to fight a reptilian to save "the mushroom kingdom"

The Mother series has a lot of insane stuff. Spoilers abound.
>First game has a character who owns a Bible and second game's final boss is defeated with prayer
>Second game's final boss is an alien turned into an eldritch horror, the player can't even comprehend him
>Second game also has a golden horned idol that haunts the MC's dream, the idol in question was owned by a very KKK-like cult originally
>One of the main characters enhanced his psychic power by undergoing self inflicted pain based trauma (breaking his limbs while in his mind)
>Third game also has trauma-based psychic power unlocking
>Third game also has people living in a peaceful, wholesome world that gets corrupted by one of the characters in the second game. One of the brainwashing tools they use is called a happy box and is "ambiguous" as to what it is, but it's obviously a TV
>Third game also has transgenders/crossdressers as a mythical race who act as sages who know powerful PSI
If there's anything huge I missed, please someone add onto it

There was theory that they were based off the Christian East-West Schism of 1054 and that the 3 Frenzy Fingers were the heretical (Orthodox) sect in-universe (together with the 2 Fingers, they would form a five-fingered hand). They are both agents of the Greater Will (YHWH) and its priest the Elden Beast. The Frenzied Flame seperated itself from the Greater Will and is desperately tring to create it's own "Elden Beast" with the Frenzy Fingers, which in-game is the player character.

Before Radagon destroyed the Elden Ring and became one w/ Marika and the Elden Beast, the Greater Will used some of the Two Fingers to channel the Elden Ring from the Divine Towers, which were actually probably there BEFORE the Greater Will and were likely the work of the Giants/nephilim, who quite literally built the Lands Between to begin with.

The handspiders meanwhile were a false attempt to mimick the Fingers from the Shadow world channelled into the Lands Between by practicioners of crystal magic. Notice that they sometimes have gold rings, likely a shoddy attempt at miminiking the Elden Ring's majesty.

Tears of the kingdom is a Buddhist metaphor. Most people don’t like it much I also admit to not liking it much but the symbolism is there.

If you follow the game you get only shallow excitement, meaningless collecting of objects and ho hum trials. The fun must be made. To have the most fun you must play your own rules and do what you like. If you follow the games outline you get nothing because it is ultimately unsatisfactory. You realize it meant nothing and you collected things only to realize you ended up with nothing to show for it. The world and life’s game is ultimately unsatisfactory and you must make your own fun. You collect weapons and items but no matter how cool or how weak or how strong they all fade and must be tossed aside and let go.

In a big world filled with things you must find your own way for the material things are fleeting and the worlds game unsatisfying. Complete the trials and grow strong or dont but at the end it’s still you and the world forever.
>>
>>41995869
ToTK was so fucking bad after the first few hours of novel dicking around. It being a boring copy-and-paste expanded BoTW with even worse aesthetics and mechanics doesn't make it a Buddhist metaphor. It's just a shitty fucking game. You could apply "Buddhist metaphor" to pretty much every openworld shitfest by your logic.

I myself admitted to it being an average game at best. But the sheer vitriol aimed at this game is a bit bewildering. It’s just children’s game anon. You act like it’s very existence is a personal attack. Bring up tears of the kingdom on v and you get worse than this guy. Why not just let it go? Game sucks so what?

It’s a metaphor for the world it seems. Those who hate it project their own dissatisfaction with the world as they sit and carefully dissect its flaws to ease the internal urge of dissecting life’s flaws. The only ones who actually like the game are manchild tendies who still have a mostly positive and light hearted view of life. The same with life it seems haha

>Implied that some of them interbred with the humans because of a previous hero being seemingly mixed with the alien species
>Game has as above so below themes, the entire underground world is a parallel mirror of the surface world, down to the mountains being canyons in the underground and vice versa
>Villain sends a dark shadowy blast into the sky at the beginning of the game, then suddenly the sky realm is visible to all. Implication is that he broke the "veil"
>Game is themed around cyclical things/time loops, even has a semi-ouroboros in the game's logo

when you think about it, Militant Tank Cow using ROLLOUT is basically a juggernaut. when it rolls out rollout, it won't stop. it runs on inertia and gets stronger and stronger. it's a juggernaut. and indians love cows. and miltank has a hijab marking.
hmmmmm maeks u thunk.

You know the funny thing is this thread isn't about if games are "good", just if they have Occult symbolism. Honestly I agree the gameplay of the Secret World is Mid due to it being an MMO but it has major overt and subtle symbolism throughout. In particular the "Filth" antagonist is a major thing to pay attention to.

Anon doesn't seem to understand that this thread isn't about if games are good or not. Like honestly I couldn't in good conscience recommended Deus Ex >>41979125 as a game to zoomers because it is so dated, but what isn't dated is the crazy stuff in the story itself, much of which has come to pass.

Malacath is Moloch, not Molag

They intentionally mix archetypes around but there really is something to be said about just his name IMO. Molag Bal=Moloch Ba'al? Yea maybe.

They can both be Moloch anon. It's a work of fiction after all. Just like how both Hircine and Shor have Odin aspects.

>world (Spira) trapped in a spiral of guilt leading to unending death
>in-universe (((religion))) knows that they're hypocrites that break their own rules to take advantage of the masses
>said religious leaders are all in on the scheme that following the atonement-based ritual only perpetuates the suffering that keeps them trapped
>kill the loosh-farming demon enslaved by the juice- uh I mean guado- and the cycle ends

Fallout has some soft disclosure on elite government cabals, especially with the enclave faction. It's stated many times they existed pre-war and were effectively the CIA of pre-war America.
