What does this board think of Terrence McKenna? His final interview has been gaining a resurgence of popularity recently, I'm not awfully familiar with him but he seems like an interesting guy. Did he have any real insights into the metaphysical or was he just another hippy who got high and thought he discovered some unknown truth?

I love Terrence McKenna, he's always really resonated with me. There's great thruths to be found in psychedelics and I feel like he was on the right track. But he was out of touch financially, in one of his books he proposed a few actions we could take to improve the planet, he proposed legalising weed and raising the prices 300% to fund public and education services, but most stoners I know would not be able to afford to smoke at those prices which would leave place for the black market to still carry on. Also the vocal on one of my favourite songs ever: https://youtu.be/FAQVkEI2VrY?si=17lit6zKuQMGKErt

i use to really be into his idea of time wave zero, but then 2012 happened and nothing happened

anyways, time wave zero was just a rip off of the omega point

I read his book True Hallucinations after seeing a passage from it posted on /x/, and it accurately captures the character and details of what people here would term synchronistic experiences. In my opinion, he's wrong to have focused in on psychedlics to explore what he found. I've also watched some youtube content where supposedly he was lecturing, and I'm convinced it was AI generated, in part because it was so different from his written voice.

that's some truth right there.
T. Was schizophrenic

He comes off as someone who people quote to justify their drug use more than actually listen to what he has to say. I’ve never gotten into him but neither have 90% of people who mention him

Some of his words fall flat after learning he stopped taking psychedelics after a bad trip instead of working though it like a true psychedelic pioneer, and then still advocating that people take them

Have you listened to Art Bell interviews with Terrence Mckenna?. He goes into some deep stuff.
His theories on time and an I-Ching type of oracle is quite interesting.

It is also when the Tussman Experimental College was in full swing at Berkeley. This was actually an Intelligence project at Berkeley from 1965 to 1969, run by Joseph Tussman. Tussman served in army intelligence in the 1940's, and this is admitted by the mainstream. I assume Tussman was still serving in Intelligence in the 1960's. One of those who came in on the ground level of this experiment was Terence McKenna, who was recruited for the Tussman Experimental College in its first year, 1965. He was still there in 1967 when Kaczynski arrived at Berkeley. You may know that McKenna later became a new-age guru and LSD pusher, in the mold of Tim Leary or Ram Dass. You may also be interested to know that McKenna later admitted he was an Intelligence asset. Last year (2013), Gnostic Media uncovered and published audio of a December 1994 lecture by McKenna at Esalen. Here is what he said,

"And certainly when I reached La Chorerra in 1971 I had a price on my head by the FBI, I was running out of money, I was at the end of my rope. And then they recruited me and said, you know, with a mouth like yours there’s a place for you in our organization. And I've worked in deep background positions about which the less said the better. And then about 15 years ago they shifted me into public relations and I've been there to the present."

>>42052956
Definitely not the worst thinker of modern times out there. I'm not buying everything he said, nor do I agree with everything he said, but he was right on the money with quite a few things (psychedelics aren't inherently bad, we are possibly approaching some kind of a singularity and/or extinction event, etc.).
>>
>>42053046
Nothing makes you schizophrenic, moron. It's a genetic issue and can only arise elsewhere from severe brain damage, like from deliriants. Not from slightly psychotropic lung relaxants kek. You not only don't do drugs, but you don't even read about them before LARPing. You also cannot become addicted to marijuana. What are you, a time travelling conservitard straight out of a 1974 convention for hippie awareness? What the shit. Bunch a fuckin retards on the internet nowadays.

He goes on rants about the so-called patriarchy in multiple lectures. He claims most cultures are based on male ego and that femininity is a more natural human state of being. He is a prorotypical feminist and I don't trust his politics. However, his views and commentary on psilocybin are top notch.
>>
>>42061905
Yeah, culture is actually based on totally real stuff that's not made up like sex, leisure, and money which have nothing to do with those things you mentioned heh
>>
>>42057863
>I'm not buying everything he said
me neither but what i liked about him is that he didn't take himself too seriously and kept telling people not to take him too seriously.
he had some wild ideas, some good some bad, i just liked that he had a lot of ideas and let you pick what you thought was valuable without insisting too much on them.
his knowledge of history and niche esoteric stuff was also kinda neat.

and i honestly realy like the way he tells story, he's a slow speaker though so i always listen at 1.75x to 2x
but i think i've heard pm all his lectures over the years, generaly when i'm in the train and yea, he's been a good thing in my life.
>>
>>42061905
>>42061920
yea that icked me as well, not just that.
still, i feel like he offer more interesting ideas than bad ones.

also when he was talking about feminity i think he was talking about the natural nurturing feminity, not the goyslop feminism where women try to become men.
>>
>>42061927
Why do all of you type like you're younger than 15? Debilitating brain damage from all the drugs, or do most grown adults surround themselves with sub-50 IQs these days? I'm only in my late twenties and this is already uncanny for me. I see political campaigns today with actual dysgenic onions drinking freaks being labeled as AI experts.

nice out of context quote, if you actualy listen to its source it's pretty obvious that.
1. he was joking
2. he was talking about the mushrooms recruiting him

>not the goyslop feminism where women try to become men
It's standard hippie feminism that he talks about. He also seems to push the idea that we are just animals functioning within nature, and that religion takes us away from that. However, he never makes comparisons to other mammals that have a male-dominant social structure. At least, I have never heard him talk about that.

i'm 28, i'm just about to get to bed so sorry for not having my full mental capacity available right now.
i don't drink.
i don't do drugs.
heck i've never even tried weed.
regarding my psychedelic use it's something like a yearly event and that's about it.
i'm just extremely sleep deprived right now and can't go to bed for the next hour.
>>
>>42061957
He has dozens if not hundreds of hours publicly on youtube of lectures discussing exactly that. jesus fuciking Christ you people don't even check you just assume to no end and confidently posture as intellectuals. Fucking get bent loser. Way out of your element. I think TikTok might be more your speed
>>
>>42061957
fair enough.
as i said, not his best idea.
but if you listen more about it he advocated for having a higher women to men ratio.
don't remember the exact ratio but he wanted many women per men.

i think he just wanted a harem world and tried to sell it as femnistic or whatever desu.
in such world men also wouldn't have to work nearly as much as they'd be more precious or whatever.

Post one then, you seething queer. I've listened to hours and hours of his lectures. He will always talk about femininity being the core if human existence but seems to ignore the fact that male dominated social structures are the norm with mammals (us).

So how does he claim humans are different?
>>
>>42062020
I thought your argument was in already presumptive dissatisfaction to the knowledge of his arguments regarding such a notion. Or are you telling us you did not listen to the lectures you claim to feel upset by? This is a mildly confusing question concerning it needing to be asked by you.

>So how does he claim humans are different?

you can go look it up yourself.
it's been a while, but the gist of what i remember is that male dominance is not universal accross human cultures, some historicaly were more matriarchal.
and even moreso in cultures that regularly consumed psychedelic substances.
his whole arguments in many videos is specificaly that mushroom tame downs those male dominant traits in many cultures.
not to say that i agree with him.

but i think the way he saw it is that we relied on those substances for a long time and when they were no longer available we became unbalanced to the other opposite extreme.

Absolutely ZERO real metaphysical insights. He was a new age Timothy Leary wannabe that parroted/developed Esalen Institute trash and contributed heavily to covering up the reality of ritual psychedelic use by disguising its intent of communion with disincarnate intelligences for purposes of intelligence/technology gathering as a curious, vexing anomaly. He covered for the "UFO" reality quite well, and only loosely connected the two. He was extremely effective in this regard- he never "double-dipped," so to speak. An excellent handler and agent provocateur, able to weave compelling stories and florid descriptions of the psychedelic experience as a socially catalyzing movement for the upcoming "revolution of consciousness." Of course, though, he failed utterly in holding back the inevitable onslaught of truth from reaching the public. He was an insider, and a very important figure in the social engineering mind-control programs of the 90's. Rave culture only lasted so long, as did his affective influence. If you return to him now, it is obvious he's little more than an exceptionally verbose charlatan who captivates through vocal affect rather than raw information and data; an even more retarded, ingrate Allan Watts. I have him to thank for many things, as well to curse. What an exceedingly duplicitous, dangerous individual he was, unassuming as he might appear to be.
>>
>>42052956
Good when it comes to psychedelic experiences and using drugs to enhance or create spiritual experiences, I personally wouldn't pay much attention to him in matters of theology and most of philosophy as he's a new age kinda guy (aka he just makes things up) or when it comes to the history of the overlap between religion and drugs but that's more because he doesn't speak about that much.
His advice how to take certain drugs to achieve the best possible results certainly helped me as a 12 year old so I'm grateful for that
I will add that there is and has always been speculation that he was at one point involved with the CIA but I've personally never looked into it to find out

He comes across like a pick me faggot
