Likely a raccoon that’d reached a state of decomposition bad enough to trick millions of people into thinking it was something other-worldly.

Mammals decompose in strange ways when they’re left in the water - saltwater in this case. The torso is extremely bloated, so the rear end of it looks a lot larger than it was when it was alive.

Even with the little evidence we have to work with, we can still deduce quite a lot from this one picture—most of which is in the head and its front legs.

It clearly has two forward-facing and large eye sockets, large ears, a large nasal opening, and a mouth with one row of canine teeth. All of this is consistent with a small dog. It likely died a natural death (it doesn’t appear to be mangled or have a broken spine as if it were run over by a car).

If I had to wager, I’d say it’s a small dog, and it probably died on the beach where no large scavengers could get at it. The red coloration on its skin is from the sun.

My guess as to why its fur is mostly missing is because it was buried in a shallow grave on the beach within the intertidal zone - likely by someone who didn’t understand that’s a terrible place to bury a pet. This would explain the limited decomposition; ocean beach sand is high in salt content, which is a natural preservative, but being buried in the intertidal zone would’ve caused the bloating we see as it was repeatedly moistened and dried out by the advance and retreat of the ocean tide.

It’s a really interesting mystery for sure, but I believe it’s been solved a long time ago, and again, was found to be either a dog or a raccoon (I can’t remember which). I’m going with small dog.

I faintly remember when I was really young, I was on this beach by a bridge that people fish on and there was thing corpse that looked exactly like this. I was with my brothers at the time and I was too scared to be near it.
Kind of strange seeing a photo so similar to it. I had no idea what it even was, I think I had nightmares

It's a raccoon. The hands and face and build are consistent with a raccoon

It's a carnivoran maxilla, dipshit. You can even see the nasal aperture.

I was gonna say you're wrong but after looking at the lower jaw of a raccoon, it seems to match

I would like to believe it's a weird chimera though, weren't there much bigger bodies found?
