Christ did not die to remove sin from the Earth, He died to free us all from sin, to purchase with His precious blood the reward of eternal life rather than eternal damnation, which is the inevitable outcome of sin. Original sin was what brought sin into the world in the first place. His sacrificial death was made to atone for the sins of mankind, original sin included. Previously, the old covenant God made with the Jews was in the form of sacrifices for sin, but having chosen all of mankind as His own there was no form of atonement we could ever possibly make that could redeem us from damnation. Even the Patriarchs (i.e. Moses, Abraham, Jacob, etc) were held in a certain level of hell. Christ’s death freed us from our eternal fate, and gave us a way to escape the slavery of sin.
