In Proverbs 31, the chapter of the Bible that describes the perfect woman, verse 23 makes mention of her husband: "Her husband is known in the city gates, taking his seat among the elders of the land."Did he become well-regarded and influential because of the support of his perfect wife, or was it because of his fame and influence that he was able to land a perfect wife?
Biblically you weren't even really considered a man until 30. I believe the Levites had to wait until 30 to begin their priesthood. Joseph and Jesus were also 30 when things really started I believe. It seems like women were more of a prize than accessories to a mans success biblically. Jacob had to slave away for 7 years I think it was for Leah, and then another 7 years after he was tricked for Rachel. In Proverbs 31 though I think the context is that both the husband and wife are "above reproach" The husband was not out being a drunken fornicator that the elders didn't respect, and the woman had dignity and carried herself well. So to answer your question I think the man was older and more established and respected so he was blessed with a suitable wife.
