I have started to notice this trend when trying to get into the mystical/esoteric/occult/spiritual, for some reason, there appears to be heavy overlap with psychotropic substance use and classical accounts of contact with divine presences, from the greco-roman mysteries, to the mysterious vedic compound Soma, to 20th century psychedelia, but what is the truth of it all? do these substances really provide a legitimate channel of communion with something greater than us? or is it all a distraction? if it is, then what is the true way to establish contact with the divine? or are we just not worthy by default?

when you're sober there's a function in your brain that makes you forget

I really don't know, and I've taken quite a bit of psychedelics. I wish I was always on them, though it makes driving rather difficult sometimes, like when the grass and road start to bleed into a uniform, mathematical topography, but intuition usually resolves that. "You gotta feel the road, Ricky Bobby"
I've observed my stream of awareness deterioate into a discrete framerate from cognitive/sensory overload, like a janky computer lagging when its processing limits are passed. I've been immersed in warm, smokeless, black and gold fire that I thought was a djinn. I've seen my ex-girlfriend transform into a reptilian/feline hybrid whose clarity of detail transcend anything I've ever witnessed or can hope to translate, just to have our mutual manifold collapse into a jagged, distorted mess.
I've seen a lot, but I always cycle back to the conclusion that these are just internal distinctions created by the mind during altered states of consciousness, because when I crudely attempt to unify these experiences into a coherent framework, the math starts to break down and become incompatible with traditionally observable reality, resulting in absurdities, contradictions, and general nonsense that result in persistent psychosis.
I think they're a useful tool in observing the mind and universe from a different, creative angle, but rational skepticism is necessary so your mind doesn't begin to unravel and lead you into a state of madness from trying to see where it leads.
Still, they add vivid texture to life, and certain anomalies are fun to analyze, like why does a particular hallucination that's localized in your immediate awareness feel like its electrifying your brain? Synesthesia is a crazy thing. Pale green, to me, smells like wet dog and rotting flesh.
Also the art is neat.
So, whatever, maybe you'll meet your idea of God on acid, and that seems to be enough for a personal revolution of spirit, as non-existent as that very well may be.

What do you mean?
Also,
>reddit
I've only been to Reddit for drug connections, and not that it matters, but I've likely been on 4chan longer than you, so you're desperate clinging to the edgy smart kid 4chan cliché isn't impressive, and is negatively intimidating.

So you're trying to tell me that I actually experienced a djinn, received telepathic communication, my ex-girlfriend is really an alien in higher dimensional space, and loads of other wacky shit, like turning into a Nazi tyrannosaurus rex from eating bratwurst at a concert while the singer was singing whatever in German is actually real?
Do you just believe whatever bullshit your mind feeds you on psychedelics?
>>

>Yes.
That's interesting.
If that were the case, then I really save reality with a conscious choice at the end of time.
Go me.
You can thank me now.
>Do you believe whatever bullshit reality feeds you while sober?
No, but it's an alternaive modeling system that has its strengths and weaknesses, just like any other frame of awareness. That's why concepts like then discrete lagging effect during sensory overload, or witnessing the mind's expressive mathematical system overlay with physical phenomena, remain true regardless of whatever chemical you happen to be on.

It is really tough to say. I took 2 hits of acid on Sunday and I had religious hallucinations,, but at the same time, a sense of the alien, and a persistent questioning of whether God was a stable force that recognized us as its own creation, or was actually a sort of.. thing that entities on 5th and 6th dimensions want humans to think of in order to farm energy from them.

What I'm trying to say is with psychedelics, you get such a strong and distinct impression of some spiritual entity/reality/truth, but at the same exact time, you are very conscious of it possibly being a delusion. It's like you're brainstorming ideas, and the ideas are really defined and distinct on all levels, but they're still just ideas.

In the past, I really put a lot of stock into the spontaneous hallucinations I had while on psychedelics. These days, I'm a bit more skeptical, but I do believe in prophetic dreams and spontaneous thought transmissions, so it's all still up in the air for me.
