In the math section you get to choose your own questions, so you can do all the easy ones and still pass. Also back then, 50% was fucking passing, so even you fucked up 5 math questions, you would still pass. If updated slightly for the present day, most eight graders would probably still pass that test.

Factor in how we lack effective social safety nets (in favor of a welfare system designed to turn people into debt slaves and drain the working and middle classes of spending money)...It's part of the reason why Americans get pissy over the notion of private schooling being a genuine alternative to public schools. I don't think it's the ideal solution, but it's pretty much the only way that we're going to transform backwards into a "healthy" society.
