I wish I knew. I consider myself to be lucky in that I am doing the work, found the inner light and try my best to not fall for the fatalism other slavs do, no matter what I have done so far I still struggle with long term depression and being a hopeless romantic. I hope to break the cycle though.

Nowadays it's about the new flavour of the week meme or whatever, having fun with your neighbours is something most aren't really capable of. I'm currently reading a book about the christian year from 1932 and I'm surprised how many cheerful traditions there were that are now forgotten or just remnants. In a region close to me there's a unique tradition that integrates the whole village and more. To put it shortly, people dress up in costumes and parade around the village, drink with homeowners, kids get smeared with shoe polish etc. Nowadays it's dying out because people just don't care and won't bother.There were many similar traditions in my country and I assume in others as well, such as the polish "kulig".We were not originally sad people, we were sad by circumstances. And nowadays by ignorance and by choice.

I moved to the US but am an ethnic slav mutt mix of whatever. I find most religions have too many rules and prescriptions that weren't useful for me. I grew up with parents who grew up under communism so I already have too many rules and routine ingrained.The only thing I found that helped me is daoism. Wu Wei and try to maintain presence. Life still sucks but this takes the pain away and I don't have to drink to get myself out of bed anymore.
