Etymologically, the term "Werewolf" should be exclusively used for males. The female equivalent would probably be "Wifwolf", which is seldom used.
>>42172302All werewolves are male, huh? Wifwolf wife does sound better tho.
>>42172475>Wifwolf wife does sound better tho.I like it, it's easier than saying "werewolf girl" or "werewolf woman"
Anybody have recommended reading? The best I've seen is Sabine Baring-Gould's "The Book of Were-Wolves," but that was published back in 1865. Are there any more recent works with more information, or is it just a barren landscape until Linda Godfrey started researching dogmen?
>>42172742History of Werewolves by Jorge Fondebrider, but it's in spanish.
>>42172825>but it's in spanish.Fuck. Time to get back to learning Spanish, I guess.
>>42172742Got a rough overview of this book as it's quiet old? Any chance you read it? >>42172825Any idea what this book says, I'm not going to learn Spanish for one book :p

>>42172871>Any idea what this book saysThe History of Werewolves traces the history of this myth from prehistory to its recent resurgence, which owes much to literature and film. The book, almost encyclopedic in scope, begins with the problematic view that ancient peoples held of the wolf, a predator of their flocks and of themselves. It goes on to review the numerous accounts—the citation of original sources is extensive—that have reached us from all over Europe: Scandinavia, the Slavic world, Ireland, Italy, the Baltic peoples, the Balkans, the Iberian Peninsula, Germany, and especially France, where the number of lycanthropy trials is very high and very well documented. Fondebrider dedicates separate chapters to the cases of Stubbe Peeter, known as the Vampire of Cologne (around 1589), and the Frenchman Jean Grenier in 1603, both of which were enormously popular in their time.
>>42172575>”werewolf girl”>”werewolf woman”erm, I believe the term is “Werebitch”.“wolf girl” and “dog woman” and “wife” are also all perfectly acceptable
>>42172871>Any chance you read it?Yep, I've read it.>Got a rough overview of this book as it's quiet old? It's a pretty thorough breakdown of the history of lycanthropy. It's got a pretty modern take on the whole thing, too, for such an old book.

>>42174711Anything on the scottish/celtic Wulver by chance? Or the historically benevolent werewolf/lycanthropic history?
>>42176917Anything on the scottish/celtic Wulver by chance? I've found their seems to have been a concerted effort from almost all churches to demonize it outside of a few of the more wild celtic areas where alot of werewolves are seen as benevolent protectors of forests or land

>>42177473That's what happens when you're bitten by a werechihuahua. Strangely less vicious than an actual chihuahua.
