Very interesting quiz, and the answer choices are beautiful, but I must not be ready for it. >What does sitting in silence bring you?Probably depression and worries>You encounter something you can't explain. Your instinct is to…Freak out and hope there's a rational explanationI took it three times, changing my answers to the questions where I liked multiple answers, and got three different results. The Phenomenological Mystic result shills the company that made the quiz and seems to be trying to assert they're real mystics, which makes me question it. If nothing else, the quiz helped me clarify what I currently believe. I don't think the divine is in all things or that the divine is actually the hidden order that the material world stems from or anything like that. I think the divine is something that we can connect to by doing or experiencing specific real-world things, like love and appreciating beauty, but it isn't everything. Hope there's a path like that.
I am suf we are bredren.
>>42175952i wonder what the difference is here
Yeah, that tracks.
>>42175990TRacks in that I'm not Christian at all, but it doesnt have any Eastern theistic traditions in its database, so the closest it has to the Personalist Vedanta schools is Neoplatonism mixed with Christian/Islam Mysticism.

>>42175125I took this test a couple times when I was in different states of mind. I've taken it about five times now, and each time I made sure to consider the questions with a fresh perspective, and answer honestly, even if I still feel like answering the same way.The aggregate of all my tests points to Hermetic/Alchemical Mystic, so overall I guess that's me. Second highest was Sufi mystic. I guess the idea of transformation is really important to me, but also, love, because I think love is what transforms you. So kind of a blend of hermeticism and sufism I suppose?

>>42176280>wondering what zen is supposed to be>seeks the divine or ultimate truth by negating all concepts and languageOh yeah I do that. I don't believe in anything and I deny everything that imposes on me. It's the everything is fake and gay philosophy.
>>42175125There were questions whose choices didn't represent me. Also I felt a few questions' answers were different ways to say the same thing.

Kind of an easy test.I just clicked on all the answers that had the word "transformation" or any variation of the word "transform" in it.Hermeticism is pretty easy to understand like that.

>You are a mystic of radical simplicity. While others build systems, you dismantle them. While others accumulate spiritual knowledge, you empty your cup. You intuit that the deepest truth cannot be captured in concepts, doctrines, or experiences -- it can only be shown, pointed at, lived.>This temperament finds expression in the Zen tradition -- the direct, unmediated encounter with things as they are, before the mind adds its commentary. But it also resonates with the apophatic (negative) theology of Christianity, which insists that God is beyond all names, all concepts, all affirmations. To say what God is not brings us closer than to say what God is.>Your mysticism is one of subtraction, presence, and paradox. You are suspicious of spiritual ambition. You know that the finger pointing at the moon is not the moon. And you suspect that after enlightenment, you still chop wood and carry water -- but now you see it clearly.

My input for this data mining glowie thread :)
I rarely post here so I may not be your typical /x/file and I feel awkward talking about this but I can't talk to a priest as much as I'd like. I suppose I should not even be here. Anyway recently I was inspired by hearing that the monks at Athos recite the Jesus prayer thousands of times per day, even 10k per day. So I came up with a way to better keep myself on track, I count my prayer rope (100 knots) cycles with lines on paper. My current goal is to reach 500, then a thousand repetitions, I've been averaging three hundred repetitions last week. That combined with a little discipline for morning and evening prayers and a few others, including exorcistic ones help me stay afloat. I also find sweetness when praying for other people, sometimes it's even easier than praying for yourself.>You are a mystic of inner stillness. Where others seek knowledge, experience, or ecstasy, you seek hesychia -- the deep quiet of the heart in which the divine presence can be known directly. For you, silence is not emptiness but fullness: it is the medium through which God communicates most clearly.>The Hesychast tradition, rooted in Orthodox Christian monasticism, centers on the practice of the Jesus Prayer ('Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me') repeated with the breath until it descends from the mind into the heart. The goal is theosis -- becoming by grace what God is by nature. Not fusion, not annihilation, but a radical intimacy that transforms the whole person, body and soul.>Your path is one of discipline, faithfulness, and quiet perseverance. You are drawn to icons, to liturgy, to the desert fathers, and to the ancient conviction that the most profound transformation happens not in ecstasy but in the patient, daily return to stillness.>Key Thinkers & Texts>The Desert Fathers, Gregory Palamas, The Philokalia, Maximus the Confessor, Seraphim of Sarov
Can someone ELI5 mine pls?

>>42185705Unless i'm mistaken 100% Neoplatonism infers that you believe in transcendent ideals and objective truths that are outside and above you, that you attempt to align yourself with. However wouldn't that be contradictory with being a 'phenomenological mystic', since there is subjectivity and arbitrariness to that category?
>>42185764I’m a living anomaly
>>42185774That was more of a philosophical question aimed at the test itself but either way people are conflicted and contradict eachother all the time. But anyway. How do those two categories apply to you in real life? Perhaps you're some kind of unspecific deist that doesn't follow any particular religion but believes his spiritual experiences or feelings without question.
>>42185795Eerily enough, that is exactly what I am, anon. I don’t follow a religion, as I believe they are just a tool for humans to control others. But I do believe in a God. And I do believe in the things shown to me through life’s journey.
>>42185826>I do believe in a God. And I do believe in the things shown to meThat's what anon's criticism is of the test. Phenomenological mystic would claim there is no possibility of knowing such, and no way but arbitrary decision to observe any message in the noise. That true peace is in abandoning the attempt to see a message, and just observe the phenomena as it arrives.Any God or message is your own self projecting a desire for pattern.
>>42175125In an fairness, I believe as soon as you say "As Above So Below" all pretenses of other forms of belief go right out the window
>>42175871This takeaway is more profound to me than any of the le deep questions in the quiz
I had mine refresh on me in the beginning so the mystic only i got and its quote.>The Phenomenological MysticThinking as devotion. Dwelling in the clearing of Being.I knew it in a sense with how the question riot for quality answers i gave for its quiz.
