I have been trying it for the past few days and I have found it insane how effective it actually is. I have grown up adjacent to a lot of new age peope who did breathwork and got roped into trying different practices but it never clicked for me. Doing this though I can feel like I can hold my breath for so long and the clear headedness I get after 2 cycles is incredible.

But all of it has got me asking some questions:
>is it true that it can put you in a "psychedelic like state"?
>if part of the breathwork is built on lowering Co2 in your bloodstream can that damage your organs and brain?

If there are any anons who are more experienced or knowledgeble about this sort of thing I would really appreciate it.

I watched a Wim Hof video and the man seemed to have brain damage. I don't want to be like that man.

His obsession over freezing his balls off is strange I admit

You're not around the right people to learn breathwork from if they didn't teach you how to enter intense psychedelic states from alternated breathing exercises. Wim Hof is amazingly effective, you can do similar with other things too in order to spike adrenaline or have fine control over your heart beat.
You can also experience something that feels very much like astral projection with intense breathing methods that I don't want to share because I'm unsure of how safe it actually is, and may just be the result of you slowly asphyxiating yourself without your body noticing.

That's my main concern with some of the stuff I am seeing with regards to the hard mechanics of how some breathworks actually work. It's all something I want to delve deeper into but I want to do it safely.

The wim hoff method is sorta just a repackaging of certain breathing exercises into a modern western cultural framework. There used to be old nat-geo documentaries with monks doing a lot of the same demonstrations that made Hoff famous but explained through a more religious paradigm

not quite
Wim Hoff stumbled upon tummo
what he teaches shouldnt even be considered a system or framework, it certainly isnt complete enough for the descriptor
tummo is part of the six yogas of naropa
anyone doing wim hof's stuff had best learn stillness methods to balance out the forceful method, otherwise trouble is down the line
anyone doing wim hof's stuff would be well advised to not go crazy with the extreme cold immersions, overdoing it will harm the kidneys/adrenals

breath holds are nice and quiet and the energy soaring is because you're not consuming all that energy by the senses
but hypoxia is always shortly around the corner no matter how good one gets at it
better way, learn to breathe finely enough so that you get the same quiescence but without the hypoxia
this is longevity breathing

Hyperoxia is a worry too, oxidative damage is no joke
>>

this is true, but that's from hyperventilating
longevity breathing is more or less pushing the boundaries of hypoventilating
just without reaching the body's limits where it feeds back and thwarts the effort
e.g. triggering the body's need to breathe, increased heartrate

Was never called that once in the post you replied to
