An astral double can be piloted like a remote live-feed camera drone by the living operator. This is AP/RV. The mistake occultists make is to think that link stays open after death, and they can use it to cheat death. True, the double does stick around for a while, it degrades slowly into informational noise. But no, the person who made it isn’t still inside, they’ve moved on. You need a living brain to keep the cord plugged in. Without the living operator, the double acts fully autonomously; like an algorithm trained on the dataset of the person’s mind, it’s able to produce contextually-appropriate outputs through a purely non-sentient pattern completion system. The dead occultist’s comrades might see an apparition of the double, and assume it’s the soul of the originator, and draw the incorrect conclusion that the originator has gained “immortality” or at least a few extra decades to dick around here on earth. But that soul is long gone; the lights are on and there’s nobody home.

Young children are most susceptible to picking up a rogue data packet through random interference and writing it to their own memory, because children don’t have enough data redundancy of their own yet to block out the noise of the rogue signal. As they age and collect experiences of their own, the rogue data gets overwritten. Most kids grow out of “past life” memories around the age of reason (7-8).
