From what I gather, Roman Paganism at one point competed with Mithras, and Christ's Gnostic teaching. Eventually arriving at a point where Christ became figurehead for Roman Paganism under the umbrella of Christianity. Is this accurate? I also find it curious that initiation-based principles were excluded from the doctrine. (Although in hindsight, acts of initiation would have precluded wide-scale adoption I suppose.)
>>42189162christ was a nazarene not a gnostic lolthe roman upper classes dabbled in mithraism and mystery religions that could be traced back to egypt but they didn't "compete", as you could practice both a roman paganism and mithraism and people didn't care, and romans also didn't mind syncretization
