Sole comes from Latin Solum which means bottom or foundation.Soul is about 800 years younger and was coined in Britain. Given the Latin origin of the word Sole, I would think Soul emerged because it’s the “foundation” of a human being.

Hedonism is simply the desire to experience more net pleasure than net pain, which can be an extremely powerful vehicle for self improvement and helping others. If helping other bring you pleasure and standing idly while they suffer is painful, then is not Hedonistic to chase the struggles of others away to soothe your own internal pain?
