The young earth creationist attack on dinosaurs is founded on the same fundamentally flawed logic as their search for noah's ark. It is a tactic born of the assumption that if they can somehow provide just 1 piece of evidence that could prove evolutionary scientific theory to be incorrect, then that would prove their own position of young earth creationism demonstrably true. The attack on specific areas of science is an attempt to prove their particular religion is true. The issue with the logic is of course that even if evolution was absolutely, 100% disproven tomorrow, that would still not be proof that the bible is the factual account of the universe. In their mind, science is the battleground of a zero sum conflict with atheists making shit up to deceive people on one side and christian soldiers trying to show them the truth of a 6,000 year old universe on the other, and if they can just disprove evolution or geology or archaeology or nuclear physics or data about stellar distances or biological science, then atheism will simply crumble like a house of cards. If a year from now a series of discoveries changed scientific consensus to be that humans just appeared one day and that all those extinct hominids are just that, then that would still not be proof of the truth of the bible. But the young earth creationist cannot understand that, and so he tries desperately to undermine anything he can, knowing if he can just expose 1 flaw in a piece of science or a single hole in our understanding of reality the atheist conspiracy will collapse.
