I am beginning to suspect that whenever we're about to have a nuclear war, we shift to a timeline where it didn't happen because of an effect similar to quantum immortality. But on a civilizational scale. Or gods/aliens step in and stop them/alter the timeline to save us from our stupidity because they're not done with us yet. Our story must go on.
