Redpill me on these guys anons, the guys who give out the small bibles. Are the bibles altered? Is there an alterior motive? From what i understand this is a closed brotherhood akin to freemason lodges? What are your experiences with them?
The small bibles only contain the new testament with psalms and proverbs added in. That's why they're able to be small.
>>42236002why not just rewrite them with shorter words?
>>42236021That's such a retarded idea, the whole concept of this organisation is theologically faithful translations of the new testament in a bunch of languages. Can you imagine how much work it would be to, not rewrite, rephrase the entire new testament in a dozen languages just so the words are shorter
>>42235993>Are the bibles altered? It's ESV so depends on your opinion on that. Also sometimes cut down like >>42236002 mentioned.>closed brotherhood akin to freemason lodgesKinda. They only allow men and are by invitation only. They used to require members to have a job that allowed them to travel but I dunno if they still do. They don't have the family clause like most masonic lodges tho.
>>42236063be worth it if it meant they could squeeze an extra testament in there, though,
>>42236073>They only allow men and are by invitation only. Well the person who gave one to me was a young woman, I assume because these people handing them out were a different Lutheran group that just had the Gideon bibles to give out. So they don't even hand them out themselves >It's ESV so depends on your opinion on that.Would the KJV be a more faithful translation for a young scholar like myself? I know it's mainly a comprehension/vocabulary difference, although i personally would want as little external interpretation influence
>>42236123>Well the person who gave one to me was a young womanWives of members are allowed to give them out, but not to become members. Also yeah they do partnerships with other churches.>KJVPersonally I prefer KJV's Old Testament and ESV's New. There are quirks in both, but if you compare them to the original texts they were based off you can see the reasoning I think. Better than crap like the NIV, in any case.
>>42236021>>42236110Lmao nice
>>42236123>KJV>faithful translationLol
>>42236063Hegel actually did something like this with his "Life of Jesus." He tried to condense all the gospels into one account. I read it a long time ago, I don't remember much about it except that it was a hell of a lot easier to get through than the Phenomenology.
