We have to watch this progressive to chart the decline in morality and prominence of the cosmic rebel archetype figure.Enki begins the archetype of the cosmic rebel. He's a major figure in the Mesopotamian religion, the world's earliest recorded true religion, and he worked for the benefit of mankind. He was humanity's advocate. He was a teacher of knowledge. Science, arts and magic. Most importantly of all when the flood came Enki was the 1 who warned humanity and worked to save them, to the displeasure of the other gods. But Enki was never punished for these rebellions. He was never punished for loving humanity. Instead Enki remained a revered and major figure in Mesopotamian mythology.Moving on to Greek and Roman mythology, a couple of thousand years later, you have Prometheus. This cosmic rebel also is humanity's benefactor and defender. He steals fire from the gods to give to humanity and opposes the Gods' plan to destroy humanity in the flood.Prometheus ends up damned to eternal torture of having his liver eaten by birds each day. Only to regrow overnight so the bird can return and peck at it anew tomorrow. He is eventually freed by Heracles, but never fully regains his standing or power afterwards. Now, move forward another 2,000 or so years and we have the figure of "Lucifer" from the Christian bible. Technically only appearing in Isaiah but mostly a prominent figure in Christian mythos.Everyone knows the story of Lucifer bringing knowledge to humanity, the apple, his fall from heaven, etc."Lucifer" is the final "cosmic archetype" rebel and he is considered purely evil. Viewed as totally irredeemable.Lucifer now, in some sense, was more seen as the CAUSE of the flood, even though it markedly was YHWH which sent it.The question is: Why does this figure, who obviously is the precise same archetype, progressively appear to be less prominent and moral over time.
My personal view is that politics became the predominant force in religion and that's what forced the move towards the more submissive-oriented view of religion. My view is that kings did not like their people venerating these stories of rebellion and emancipation from oppression. Therefore, the emancipators progressively became viewed as more and more demonic. More and more evil. More, and more, over time, until eventually we have the present day view of "Lucifer", the knowledge-bringer, as just unmitigated, total evil.
I think you're right, and you'll see this same progression in hero comics and movies. Hell, any Hollywood film is scared of depicting heroes as wholly good, moral men and women. They need to be "complicated" and textured, to have tremendous flaws almost to the point of being a warning to keep people docile or to view their own negative traits far more strongly than their positive ones.I think rebellion is one of those things that must be used as a weapon of justice. Several japanese games I've played view vigilante justice through characters with few negative traits but the world is determined to view them negatively, or at worst, entertainment.I'm still skeptical about trusting a figure named Lucifer. Maybe that's because of all the information I've digested over the years characterizing it as a selfish entity. But I do have in my heart the view that rebellion is inevitable when evil gets too cocky. Good will always, and forever, prevail in the end. And evil will have to try again with different methods.
>Give Lucifer relevance in pop media that isn't some el diablo body double eye candy for horny teenage girls>He's an incompetent, simpering goofball cuck and a failed father who has lost the respect of his peopleI wonder what the Jews meant by this
>>42239874Oh, you know what else, too? The Priest Class. Very high up in the social caste. They would have seen themselves as beneficiaries of establishment power. They would have represented, effectively, the bourgeois. So they would have demonized any stories which involved rebellion (including cosmic rebellion.)
