Is there any paranormal stuff relating to Evangelion? The series and movie are filled with imagery from multiple religions, and I was interested if anyone had any information surrounding it.

i heard the creator kill himself before making it so it''s cursed.

Anime has a lot of reptilian energy in it.

Anno?

Evangelion is an interesting case of Masonic dissemination.
There is no manga; it was designed to be an anime from the beginning.
Hideaki Ano has a sad backstory, but he is also a great artist with great sensitivity.
The question here is why the control groups decided to place all their symbolism in an anime that they didn't know would be a success.
Was Anno a Freemason even before releasing Evangelion? Perhaps. Didn't they expect it to become a cultural phenomenon and include their energy symbols anyway?
Did Freemasonry intervene in the film The End of Evangelion, completely changing the ending of Sinji abandoning his depression?

The Japanese were into a lot of occult stuff, which includes Freemasonry. A lot of anime pre 2007 had this imagery. Helps that Shrooms were easy to get your hands on up until around 2002. Anything that uses theaters for example is a dead giveaway.

I always assumed that the lore was that humans are actually the villains but they don't even know it, and that the "angels" were more or less biblically accurate, sent by God to destroy the "humans" because they were actually nephilim (angel/human hybrids). We're meant to root for Shinji and the others and hope the EVAs can defeat the angels, but no one knew why exactly the impacts happened in the first place, which I assume was God's wrath on the corrupted human species like the flood.
But hey, that's just a theory, a lame theory.

The anime has a lot of religious connections, especially to Adam, dead sea scrolls, etc. Seale I assumed we're based on the 7 seals in the book of revelations, and the members who originally wanted Gendo to use the EVAs to defeat the angels turned on him. Tho we aren't told why they betrayed him in the movie, I'd like to think they wanted the third impact to happen since they seem to be "enlighted" like the illuminati and thought the world needed a reset so they can become one with each other through the primordial soup. From their perspective, the whole EVA and Gendo expirement with Rei was just a test, and they really just wanted to end the world.

Anyway, you'd definitely find more answers on the anime thread, or yt religious connotations to Evangelion (I think a priest made videos about the symbolism and delves into it more)

Apparently each reboot and incarnation of the series is canon as well. Cycles of guilt and all that. Sort of like Big O.

Like another anon said, Japan loves its symbolism.

Their language is still steeped in symbolism. Unlike the alphabet us english speaking fucks have today, Japan still writes with what's not too different from hieroglyphics. Their characters represent recognizable shapes and concepts. So when they research mythology and history, they're drawn to the MEANING behind symbols.

Anno has said that all of the religious stuff was just there because it was cool and you know it's true because all of the abrahamic iconography and pararells are used very retardedly.
All of the obscure things within evangelion come from all of the predictive programming shit. All of their most important characters became realities for the people of our era. The whole subtext about a society detached from the love of their parents and thus creating hollow indivuals that would forever dream of returning to the womb was pretty spot on

It totally shocked me when I first saw EoE (I was like 13). Probably because of that I still feel a strange mix of nostalgia and discomfort when watching it.

Answering the question, anno has literally said that there is no deep meaning. He inserted random things for it to look deep, so I guess it really has no deep meaning besides the depression thing (Though one can think that it is anno's way of saying fuck you to otakus because the anime has an anti-escapist message). Nevertheless I found another interpretation. For me, Seele is basically an accelerationist organization whose point is to emerge (create) a new god/an overman. So the entire series is about the last days of humanity before the overman (in the ps2 game it was revealed that the Seele's plan was to put their souls into one of Evas and become a new god) is created. Evas are techonolgy, so they are a way humanity tries to achieve the god's power.
>>

>anno has literally said that there is no deep meaning
Wrong.
>He inserted random things for it to look deep,
That isn't what he said.

He said "I used the imagery because it's cool".
That does not translate to "I don't know what it means and have no intention for it." It means he likes the visual imagery and used it. The fact he used it CORRECTLY is not an accident. He used imagery he likes and constructed meaning for the show that makes perfect sense. I don't know why people like you are so aggressive in trying to dismiss any and all meaning in Evangelion. Have you seen the show since you were thirteen? I'm beginning to believe you haven't.
>Nevertheless I found another interpretation.
fucking hypocrite.

He has admitted that he literally searched for cool random words connected to christianity in a dictionary, so they definitely don't have any deep meaning, retard.

>"As for the elements relating to Christianity, I just researched them quickly using dictionary-like books. Because these sort of convenient things exist in the world, (laughs) around the time when we were students, the anime “Macross” was showing on TV, and there was a “catalog generation,” a generation interested in nothing but “specs” and catalogs. They would only evaluate things on the basis of “catalog-like” elements. They didn’t care about “interior” elements but were only caught up in what was on the surface. So, you can extend that [idea]. [In Eva] there are various “keyword-like” terms but, in truth, these are just symbols. They don’t really have meanings taken individually. As they are mixed together, for the first time something like an interrelationship or a meaning emerges. If you investigate each one individually you will very quickly reach the bottom."

>He said "I used the imagery because it's cool".
He said that it was cool looking and that's it. He didn't say "I like what they mean so I used them", he said that he doesn't give a fuck about their meaning. "in truth, these are just symbols. They don’t really have meanings taken individually"

>The fact he used it CORRECTLY is not an accident
It's not even that correctly used. You don't even have to be a christian to make bible references. It takes a bible and a free evening

>fucking hypocrite.
I don't say that he meant it, nigger. It's just how it can be understood. You can read a book in a way that was not intended and that what I meant.

you're retarded.

So he DOES know what the symbols mean and he used them right? Or he DOESN'T know what they mean but still used them right even though everyone knows what they mean?

>Or he DOESN'T know what they mean but still used them right even though everyone knows what they mean?
What makes you think they are used in a right way? Anyway, the question is not "are they used in a right way", the question is "what was he trying to say using them". They may be used right in some places but it doesn't add another layer of meaning to the series. There is no system, no logic.

>>42266196
Are you retarded? I'm literally showing a quote telling that he knew so little that he had used a dictionary to make those references.

Obviously, Hideaki Anno isn't going to make statements saying, "Oh yes, I used Kabbalistic imagery and mixed it with Abrahamic myths," or "I wanted to subvert Western cults because I'm a Freemason."

No self-respecting author is going to gush about their intent, purpose and glaze themselves about their own work in an interview. They've said all they wanted to in their work. If you come to them after that and said "uhhh explain?" we're just going to shrug it off.

There is a difference between "I'm not explaining it" and "There is no meaning guys"
>>
>>42269915
Anno never said there is no meaning. He said he thinks it looks/sounds cool.
You're heavily interpreting that simple sentence harder than you've ever interpreted Evangelion because you're operating on a resentful bias and you're committed to making yourself look retarded for some reason.

I remember a picture I saw here years ago with several books released in Japan about Eva. Some of them were about the mysticism behind the anime.

said the guy who's trying to dismiss a whole series made by a group of people because the writer said he likes how something looks and sounds.
>>
>>42270005
I'm just saying that if writer has said that this specific thing in his series is meaningless than it is meaningless.

>the writer said he likes how something looks and sounds.
you are genuinely retarded. he has said that was his main motivation. you are literally ignoring his quotes because it's too hard for you to accept that you are looking for deep meaning where there is none hidden

Hello darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence
In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone
'Neath the halo of a street lamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence
And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share
No one dared
Disturb the sound of silence
"Fools" said I, "You do not know
Silence like a cancer grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you"
But my words like silent raindrops fell
And echoed in the wells of silence
And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made

>There is no manga; it was designed to be an anime from the beginning.
Well despite that there is a manga that started before it and ended after it penned and drawn by the actual character designer and story board artist. It also doesn't have filler and tells a complete story unlike said anime. MC is also more likeable and relatable in the manga.

Reminds me of something I recently found out about Plotinus, the founder of Neoplatonism. According to his biography he didn't get into the whole "merge with the One" thing until he got scolded/mocked for sucking on his caretaker's titty when he was like eight years old. Perhaps you could call it Freudian (see pic at >>42262115). Anyway, this is certainly not a new culture phenomena.
